Hi all,

I now have a budget plan for next year that requires £279,000.

If anyone has any ideas about how to raise that kind of cash quickly, I'd be very interested to talk to you.

The best answers seem to be:

a) Individual patronage - but we'd need to identify one or two extremely wealthy folk.

b) Commercial sponsorship (but to make life difficult, I couldn't accept funding from any organisation that might seek to change the Safe Speed message)

With proper funding we can win the war on the motorist. I'm now quite sure of it. Can you help?

If you want to help in a small way, please consider joining Safe Speed:

http://www.safespeed.org.uk/join.html

I will expire the lifetime membership special offer at the end of this month (October).

Paul,

the big problem is that SS is not seen as one of the sheep of the current road safety brigade who get all the funding to support the current dogma. Would it not be benificial to try and place a few small adverts in a relatively neutral magazine or publication stating that SS is setting up a road safety fund that will fund research into solutions to the current problems on our roads etc? I doubt Government would, in any way, support SS so private funding has to be sought such as from businesses that are involved in and around our roads such as the AA, RAC, road haulage, fleet and car hire companies and maybe even Durham Chief of Police :)

As a final thought what about the motoring shows such as Top Gear, 5th Gear etc. Where you could ask them to mention SS and what you are actively doing and that you are now looking for serious widespread support in pursuit of better road safety as many people have been stung by cameras and might take a more active interest, I mean even 100 concerned and well off individuals out of 4or 5 million caught speeding is a brilliant start?

Andrew

What about targetting car clubs and setting up stalls with fact sheets at relevant shows and the obligatory collection plate, Summer is only getting closer :) :D I'm sure the money can be raised if it really needs to be, which in this case is true.

Regards

Andrew

Last year we went to "Pistonfest" with a tent and a table. We dropped about £400 because of various costs and got hardly anything in the way of memberships and donations. (£60 I think)

Within the budget plan is a decent mobile exhibition, and I do agree it would be well worth visiting these places. But if we do, we have to put on a decent show and unless we can afford to do that I'm discouraged from trying to do it again as a fund raiser.

A tadge over £1/4 of a million is a fair sum.
This may sound a little obvious(?) but have you considered making tentative contact with any Big Names (with big pay cheques as well  ) who have been pinged by a camera and are publically angered by this?

I've certainly thought about it, but I haven't actually tried it. I know I should. It's bloody hard to get hold of addresses and phone numbers, and basically, truth be told, I just keep putting it off. :(

What about Royalty? They aren't known for going very slowly. Lindly was it that kept getting nabebed at something over a ton? On open motorways?

Also sports personalities? Yorke? Ronnie O-Sullivan? (he got done in his beamer for 130 plus on M3 late one night)

If bus companies are happy to sink money into the likes of T2000, would it be reasonable to expect car manufacturers to support SafeSpeed, or would that be an irrevocable conflict of interest?

Hell, the sum of money you are talking about would be a drop in the ocean for just one car manufacturer - no more than the cost of sending a small number of executives on a 3 day seminar...

You'd have to be well prepared with some solid answers to the accusations that would inevitably come flying from the likes of BRAKE / T2000 etc though.

Paul,

Have you thought of applying for lottery funding? I don't know what the criteria is but I'm fairly sure you could justify it.

It's difficult - You could spend a month preparing the application and end up with nothing. :( It'd be very heard to find the month.

I DO have some progress on funding - I have a couple of guys helping me with it. I just hope it works and works soon!

In the meantime any assistance from visitors here would be very welcome indeed. Visit: http://www.safespeed.org.uk/join.html

Paul

I doubt you remember me mentioning a local private boat club that applied for a lottery grant to fund a building project and were unsuccessful....well they now seem to have got it, so I suppose persistance pays off.

This project wasn't going to benifit any members of the public except the club members so I'm surprised they got it. I would imagine any project that is for the benifit of the public-especially safety related-that there would be a good chance of obtaining a grant.

Regards

Andrew

A lot of contributors to this site reject the "politically correct" views of the Government nannies. The lottery distribution outfit is one of the worst for being "right on message", a good example being when the Samaritans asked for help.

As their service is confidential they were not able to produce evidence that they helped the categories of disadvantaged citizens required this week by the lottery funds. They were thus refused.

Don't waste your time. Your application would be junked due to a discrete phone call from some shadowy figure to the funding decision makers.
