Hi

Just wonder if anyone knows how to insert the '+' in a fax machine when dialing an international number e.g. +20 1234 567890. Machine is a BT Paperjet 150. I can't find any reference on how to do it in user manual. It does work when you are putting in your own number (press 9 which gives you the '+' sign) but doesn't work when sending out and dialing a number to fax.

Thanks if anyone knows anything about these and can inform me what I need to do.

Andrew

You'll likely just have to press 00

Yes, you should dial 00 before the country code. :)

Ok thanks i'll try that!! I thought it would have been the same as my own number prefix i.e. '+'

'+' in a phone number is shorthand for "insert your international access code here"

+ as a prefix is a cellphone thing. Fax is old-tech.

I am sure it was used before cellphones.

That must be why it works so well

IIRC the FAX was invented (and demonstated) before the telephone!

(Oh, and whn my Parents were in Africa and the middle east in the 50's, a lot of comms was done using telex machines since you could often get a good com with telex over a phone line that was too noisy/faint for voice coms)

Telex was just fancy packaging for the old-fashioned telegraph. ISTR that the old machines ran at 110 baud which only needs 5% the bandwidth of voice so it could tolerate a lot of noise on the line
