Like I always say, one good way to reduce the revenue from speed camera overnight and that is obey the speed limit as you are obliged to, by law.

Easiest thing in world to miss a lolly if in a strange place - especially if the van is placed yards into the lowered limit.

:scratchchin: But we've always lurked around here anyway. But you cannot really miss big cars with clear markings and the difference in the pull is the personal contact explaining it all.

Signs warning the driver to cut the speed - cam warning signs .. etc should all serve to remind the driver to check the dash and rein it in. I see zero issue with extra signs to warn folk. The fact they fail to notice these .. and the camera .. seems to tell me that they lack all of the COAST skills.
This explains why Lancs at least formally teach it in their SAC courses

By the way C stands for Consideration and Courtesy . but if I spelt it as C_C_COA-A-ST per the official mark scheme .. it becomes a bit of a stutter :bunker:

October 2003. White Hetz Van was parked up on a 30 mph section of a 40 mph road. On a bend.

:banghead:

No markings on this van other than it was a Hertz rental. :banghead:

20 motorists were pinged. Of these - 10 ended up on the SAC course per the LEP etc.

One driver thought the van had been abandoned as it was parked in a dangerous spot. He pulled over to take some details and call the police about it.. to find a cam op police officer hiding under a blanket with his speed gun in the back :yikes:

The story did make the Sexpress/Waily/StUN/Torygraph/Grauniad/Times at the time. Must be archived somewhere in all these papers. :hehe:

I recall reading the "red faced officer claimed he was saving lives!" and the then boss of the Lancs SCP claiming the Hertz van was justified.. before it was pointed out to him that this was not under the guidelines which allowed the prats to pocket the cash to pay its overheads and capital expenditure. Thereafter - the vans were marked up .. and Lancs later revised the SAC scheme to include a wider and more tolerant margin ,.. which netted more bums on seats for the SAC course.

Have no issues with said SAC course. From those we know to have attended this - they found they enjoyed the course and became better motivated to tackle IAM even in some cases. We also found that it formally teaches COAST from the paperwork supplied to us from these "victims". The issue lies in criteria used for the invites as there still seems to be evidence of low pings - which we suspect might be to fill vacant seats.

Mmm. Would a law abiding citizen object to a police officer hiding behind a bush in order to catch a burglar in the act?

Mmm, would a law abiding citizen object to a police officer hiding in a tree in their back garden and looking into the bedroom window - just in case a burglar was to break in (even though there was no prior evidence to suggest that there were burglars in the area)?

But with speed cameras there is prior evidence of speeding motorists.

How?

We drive along two roads with the vans . plus the M6 with the vans on the bridges.

We are not speeding .. but the alert goes off in our cars to let us know the car's been hit by a hairdryer.

They do not form any opinion. They just aim on the off-chance .. that the car might be marginally over.

Actually there is no prior evidence (if you're talking about a manned camera), only the inference of an opinion. Think about it, is the pressing of the button 'evidence' of a driver exceeding the limit?

Burgulary is an intentional, illegal, anti social act that ALWAYS results in distress for the burgalled party. Is unintenionally exceeding a posted speed limit (which may have been 30MPH higher than it is now only a few months ago) by a few MPH such an anti-social criminal act that causes as much distress as burgularly....Not in my book it's not!

Without my permission ? I'd just turn the alsation out !!!!!
No seriously! No self respecting police officer would do that without permission but these wannabe failures haven't even the decency to ask!
However if they were ordered to do so by an egomanic CTO Manager they wouldn't have any choice! Would they ?

Well, you'd have to look at the stats. If everybody slowed down and stopped speeding tomorrow then I reckon you save more deaths and injuries in a month than burglars inflict on people in 10 years.

If the stats were supplied by Lancashire Constabulary you would be screaming out of your head!

Stats are as good as the information that's put in.
The police have league tables , targets, figures to hit, figures not to hit .
Budgets rely on stats & these guys have been around villians too long to know to KNOW that the politicians that pay the piper couldn't sing the tune!!!!
SO...... THEY MAKE MAKE THE STATS FIT THE FACTS & keep on drawing their budgets.
While the frontline troops get body army , the Statisticians get the rises & DINNER DANCES, & an invatation to THE LODGE!!

Not if they come into my house sunshine! Will just save dogfood for the next few days.
Stop talking garbage!
Edit
Apologies!!
We do not live in a real world where everybody obeys the law. I know.
But the Lawmakers don't want us ti know what the law IS!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we did then solicitors judges & the powers that be would go short of work ie. short of MONEY!
Everybody in this country is LOOKING TO FIDDLE!!!
The police have taken flac for years as the DEMONS in relation to speeding!
They are NOT!!!!!!
They are the people who handle the death & destruction on the Roads, FOR WHATEVER REASON, speeding, drunkeness, carelessness whatever! HUMAN FRAILITIES!
BUT Their Chiefs, for whatever hidden agenda, or outside influences or loyalties let themtake it, whilst protecting THEIR MATES OR SOMEONE HIGHER UP THE LADDER THAN THEM IN A PARTICULAR CLUB OR ASSOCIATION!!!!!
DON'T KNOCK THE COPS but THE TOP COP HAS TO STAND UP & SUPPORT THEM!
WE LOST THE BEST TO THE MET!
I DON@T KNOW WHAT WE HAVE GOT NOW!
IT SEEMS THAT THE TAIL IS WAGGING THE DOG!

If you look at the stats (and I strongly suspect you haven't), you would have no choice but to conclude that, if all pedestrians looked properly before crossing it would save on about as many deaths and injuries as if everybody stopped speeding. (74% of all pedestrian casualties (646 fatalities) have the pedestrian at fault, mostly for 'failing to look properly'; table 4i, RCGB2007).

The best way to prevent people from 'speeding' is to set the limits properly!

Weepy .. we have been burgled in the past. As have others in the family. Trust me ... you feel "violated and abused". Such feelings take a long time to recede.

All road users have a responsibilty though. We live in a modern world and we all need to work with it.. taking nowt for granted. We need to educate all to cope. understand .. and live with each other according to situations.

Not rocket science. Does not need my (or Wildy's) allegedly above average IQ to work this out. (Folk tested us.. we are MENSA members and create chaos there too )

It need pure common garden common sense

Hey you have to build a special, but even a merc wouldn't fit your needs!
You need THIS:
Image Image Image

I reckon about three months income as a SACs provider should just about buy one of these!
Might be worth joining the growth industry!

If dangerous drivers got "caught in the act" as the burglar would, then nobody would have any objection.
It's the fact that they simply RECORD the "crime" then allow it to continue which leaves you breathless.

I cannot allow my children out on the roads around us because to many idiots are on the roads.
A few are speeding beyond the legal limit - but with most it is driving TOO FAST (as opposed to illegally fast) on our estate, and not watching where they are going.
A classic example is the brow of the hill which gives the first view of the Lake and the town stretched out in front of drivers as they enter Windermere.
It is the scene of regular collisions as drivers brake to admire the view, AND take their eyes off the road... by 90°!!
