If you have received an NIP for exceeding 30mph at these roadworks you should appeal straight away citing that the road is illegally signed and that the traffic order introduced by Gwynedd Council cannot be enforced.

Part of the road is still signed for speed limits exceeding 40mph - in fact these signs are right next to the Arrive Alive van's usual location.

Contact me for further info and if enough of us appeal we should stand a chance of getting fixed penalties over-turned.

:welcome: Welcome to Safe Speed.

Thank you for the information.

How are the signs wrong, how many and in which directions ? (Please).

I do have solicitors who are always interested in collective cases. How long has this been wrong ?

Telford and Wrekin council have had 30MPH signs at road works for over a year now but I only noticed, in the local paper, last week the official notification for these speed limits. The same thing happened over a year ago, they brought in 40 MPH on a previously NSL road but the official notification didn't appear until at least 5-6 months later.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

Hi, I too have just received a ticket for the A499 Llanaelhaearn from 1st May heading towards Abersoch.

The NIP says I was doing 35 in the 30 zone, I saw the van at the end of the half-mile straight, directly after the corner - the van was at the end of the 30 zone before the national speed limit section of the road. As I saw it I made absolutely certain I was only doing 30 and yes it was a pain as there was absolutely no need for that road to be 30 in the first place but I made sure I didn't go over the speed limit since I was actually driving towards the van!

Can I ask for a certificate of calibration or find out the measurements of calculation, as I am certain I did not do this speed. I haven't sent the NIP back yet by the way.

A couple of weeks ago Caernarfon Magistrates Court decided that the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order made by Gwynedd Council imposing the 30mph limit on the roadworks was illegal as the Council failed to follow correct procedures. Apparently the CPS has accepted the decision. Anyone travelling over 30mph but less than 60mph may now get their penalty overturned.

Write to Arrive Alive, now called GoSafe and Gwynedd Council.

For more info just google "A499 speeding illegal" and look for the various press reports.
