what you have said is racist Abercrombie.

but ...

The English name "Wales" originates from the Germanic word Walh or Waelisc, which referred to foreigners

The English/German (Saisneg or Saxons in Welsh) word for the Welsh people infers that the Welsh are foreigners. Which means that the English/Germans regarded the Welsh as foreigners even in their own country! When the newcomers are the Saxons themselves.

Yeah, I've noticed lots of rockers along there - that's my patch.

Well, what made the alarm bells go off in my head was when you mentioned the F word and it reminded me of the dreadful time my old dear friends had over here back in the 70s, and many others I've known since...

1. a person from another country, thought of as an outsider; alien
2. any person regarded as an outsider or stranger

Ernesto came to England in the early 70s where we worked together as electronics technicians for many years. I was one of the few people he warmed to and is still a dear friend to this day. Although he eventually made his home in America we still Chat, via Messenger with our web cams, and I go over to see him when I can.

I've said it once here before, without mentioning him by name, but it was he who once said to me "Tony, I have never known a country like this. If you are black you're a censored or wog! If you are yellow you're a chink! If you are Italian you're a wop! If you are French you're a frog! If you are German you're a crout! You have a put-down for everyone!"

All I could do is hang my head in shame; I knew he was right. The Empire mentality was rife back then :( but those words stuck with me to this day. I don't like prejudice of any kind; there but for the grace of God...

So when I hear the word 'foreigner' or expressions like 'these bloody foreigners' it makes my blood run cold.

BTW, (Rush may back me up on this). They are called Americans, not yanks!

You're very fortunate; a beautiful place. I hope to go again soon :D Maybe next time we could meet up to share a pint and you can observe my safe, but sometimes speedy, driving ;)

I spell Amerikans differently; I have my reasons.

The Amerikan consensus, is that the only people who can use an epithet, are those whom it was previously used upon. Any one who is not the epithet they are uttering, is automatically thought to be 'wielding' it, unless you're Lisa Lampanelli, or some other comedian, or you're very good at 'sleight of mouth'.

Outside of New York, the term 'Yanks' might be considered an attempt at an insult, but it would also be seen as an invitation to return fire. In New York, that's the contraction for one of the baseball teams; it would only be an insult if the person being called a 'Yank' was actually a Mets fan.

It's not that I think racism isn't a problem; it certainly is.

My fear is that, when finally we 'conquer' racism and all the other old 'isms', we find everyone equally oppressed, overtaxed, watched, and fenced in simply by clever redistribution and manipulation of Info, Time, Energy, Matter, and Space.

But we don't reserve our put-downs for foreigners - Tyke, Geordie, Scouser, Brummie, Cockney ....
And it isn't a purely British thing - I have been called a Limey often enough in America.

We live in an old wreck that I'm going to do up. It's near the top of Halkyn Mountain, which is almost visible from the Ponderosa. It would be great to meet.

No way ... most of my family are yanks (Laguna Beach), and I love them to bits. We use it it here in Britain as a term of endearment, like Canuck, for that other crowd.
