MERSEYSIDE is to be blitzed by speed cameras to try to cut the rising number of people killed and injured on the region's roads.
A new agency set up by Merseyside police with local councils will increase the number of sites where officers will use mobile cameras to catch drivers breaking the speed limit.
The force
hopes this will lead to
a massive rise in the number of speeding fines handed out this year - up from 20,000 in the past 12 months to 50,000 next year.
The 150% rise would lead to motorists in Merseyside facing charges totalling
£3m next year - with three penalty points on each driver's licence.

But.......we keep hearing that, cameras are ?
NOT? about 'raising revenue' !
And, they are using the fact that the number of people killed actually went
up rather than down in both 2002/ 03 and 2003/04, (despite the use of scameras) to justify
MORE scameras
What happens if (when) deaths
continue to increase ?
Oh, silly me,
More 'scameras' (And 'Revenue').
