MERSEYSIDE is to be blitzed by speed cameras to try to cut the rising number of people killed and injured on the region's roads.

A new agency set up by Merseyside police with local councils will increase the number of sites where officers will use mobile cameras to catch drivers breaking the speed limit.

The force hopes this will lead to a massive rise in the number of speeding fines handed out this year - up from 20,000 in the past 12 months to 50,000 next year.

The 150% rise would lead to motorists in Merseyside facing charges totalling £3m next year - with three penalty points on each driver's licence.

But.......we keep hearing that, cameras are ?NOT? about 'raising revenue' !

And, they are using the fact that the number of people killed actually went up rather than down in both 2002/ 03 and 2003/04, (despite the use of scameras) to justify MORE scameras

What happens if (when) deaths continue to increase ?
Oh, silly me, More 'scameras' (And 'Revenue').

didn't they get their scamerati rejected on the grounds that most of the sites didn't meet the scamera criteria. The article talks of a new partnership was it slipped in via the back door

Back door, front door, side door, sh*thouse door, what's the difference, they're still intent on raising 3million quid next year !

It must be a 'competition' between rival forces, to see who can make the most money.
(Wonder what the prize is for the winners ?)

Notts scammers bragged of their £4.2 mill 'success' (from one pair of scams, and, the total 'takings' of £16million, over 5years) and that started the ball rolling.

Almost every force is at it now.

Pity they can't have a blitz on burglars and drug dealers in Liverpool!
Oh, of course, that wouldn't generate any revenue.
Why do the Chief Constables go along with this system which just generates cynicism and bad feeling towards the ordinary copper. Can't they see that Mr. Average wants to see crime tackled. The press have just reported that less crimes than ever reach a punishment stage.
This all makes the Police Service look more like an extension of the treasury.

Hence the proposed relaxation of the siting criteria rules-in other words cameras are going to be put up where most money....sorry, lives can be saved :D

Regards

Notts chief CON. has got 16 million reasons (£s) for 'going along with the system' to date.!
And, countless millions more to come !

For £16million+ + +........... f*** the 'bad feelings' !
