Speed camera bosses deny van was parked dangerously

A van parked up in Mold
SPEED camera bosses have replied to a claim that one of their vans was parked in a dangerous position as it filmed in Coedpoeth.
Leader reader Dave Jones said he was travelling through the village on a Saturday morning recently when he saw the van parked by the Smelt.
“It was parked on the wrong side the road facing the wrong way,” he said.
“If it was anyone else that is an offence, so why not them?
“They are breaking the law and then fining people for it too.
“They should also abide by the law.”
He added: “What a farce. I was travelling in the opposite direction and had to drive round the camera van.
“They were breaking the law by facing oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the road.”
A spokesman for the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership said: “Coedpoeth has been identified as an area for safety camera enforcement and there are speed limit signs and camera signs in place to advise drivers that speed may be monitored.

“Safety camera vans are operated by experienced police officers who are fully aware of the law.
“The aim of GoSafe – formerly Arrive Alive – is casualty reduction and our officers are well aware of health and safety requirements especially when selecting a parking location for the vans.”
She added: “The safety camera partnerships in Wales have merged to become one. We are no longer Arrive Alive and Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership but GanBwyll/GoSafe – the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership.
“This doesn’t affect the way we operate safety camera enforcement in Wales and our aim remains to reduce the number of people killed and injured on Welsh roads through speed and red light camera enforcement, education and engineering strategies.”

Considering everything that the Camera Partnership said at the recent Event that I attend (Glasgow Uni) this is simply appalling ! They should admit they are 'wrong' and remove their useless disrespected and hypocritical program altogether.

Since when has it been an offence, to park facing oncoming traffic, during the hours of daylight?

Why do these bodies persistently keep changing their names and organisation?

Is it so that nobody can get the blame?

It is an offence to mount a pavement that hasn't been modified to accept vehicle weight.

It's quite clear there's no dropped kerb at that section. A PCN should be issued to that driver.

Speeding in Coedpoeth???? Really??? I've driven through there quite a bit and no-one speeds through the tight villagey bit. The road then widens up massively before the NSL signs appear which is probably where the van would be.

I think they keep changing names, are because they wish to appear more acceptable by the public, and are trying to move away from 'cameras' as the public rift is now so large any association to them is met with distaste.
The photograph caption is of a camera van in Mold, I think this is a press photo not of the camera van that was committing the offensive position to which people have complained.

Here is the link to Ceodpoeth - any idea which is the smelt that it was near ? The chap says that he has to 'drive around it'.
Plus with this quote
Quote:
“Safety camera vans are operated by experienced police officers who are fully aware of the law.
Then there is no excuse and they must be booked surely - any excuse is adding to the hypocritical rules one for the public and one for the Police.

It could - as could any parking on the carriageway, verge or pavement - be regarded as obstructing the highway. That is both a public nuisance, which is a misdemeanour at common law and an offence against section 37 of th Highways act 1980.

That looks like the van is on the A525 to me. Smelt lanes and smelt roads all come out onto the A525. As far as I remember there is a sign saying 'the smelt' at some point along the A525 around Coedpoeth. The next time I am up there I'll see if I can find the spot. It should be published on the pratnership site too.

They're probably all "freemen" so they won't have to comply with any laws that they don't like

Or the other( similar ?) arguement that the camera lot use -that they're on police business ,so trhey can bend the law - or it doesn't apply to them .
