Camera's fate still unknown

THE fate of a vandal-hit speed camera on the B1061 Dullingham road at Newmarket is still under review.

It was attacked three times last year and left burned and blackened after the last incident in July.

At the same time, the speed camera on the A1304 Cambridge road in Newmarket was also attacked. That has been replaced, but the Dullingham Road one is still out of action.

Stuart Clarkson, of the Cambridgeshire Safety Partnership, which is in charge of speed cameras in the county, said mobile speed cameras in a van were being used to enforce the limit. He said no decision had been taken about whether to replace the camera.

Another "vulnerable" camera, off the A1101 at Littleport, had not been replaced because it, too, had been the subject of attacks, he said.

A camera van was also being used there to enforce the limit.

Is this perhaps something of an admission of defeat? Image

I have always thought that one of the straws in the wind showing the unravelling of the speed camera policy would be when vandalised cameras weren't replaced.

more like they realise scamvans bring in a lot more money than the yellow bandits.

With talivans set to overtake fixed cameras and the govts own report highlights the questionable beneift, it simply reinforces the revenue role of the scamerati.
