The Near Mises & crashes is a Forum not just a single post or single thread - but many -
here. The AA did a survey many years ago and found that after the 5th near miss the 6th was an accident. So analysing your driving and trying to look at it objectively can help you be critical and therefore learn more and grow in ability. Learn the good behaviours that others exhibit. Buy a copy of Mind Driving and Roadcraft both have a great mass of driving knowledge and good behaviours that can make you a safe driver. We need as drivers and riders to always default to a secure and very safe ability. Learning how and what makes up that safety is important. Mostly we learn it when we learn to ride / drive but we are concerned that the skewed perception of speed as being safe is over-riding other more important safety messages.

thing is i am feeling more nervous driving now than i did with a L plate. i am getting a P plate (any views on this) i havent gone out alone. i am nervous and my husband is too. think i will start by making some short journeys near my house. any tips on how to gain confidence here.
It seems like a good idea to take short trips but if you are this nervous then perhaps joining the IAM will help you talk to those that have a good basic understanding of driving safely and confidently is a better idea. Having passed your test you should be confident and capable of driving on any road and cope with most conditions without too much bother? What is it that you are nervous about ?
I can understand a certain level of general apprehension but is there something more than this going on. If your husband is also nervous then this may add to your under-confidence than help you - goto IAM.
