Porsche-driver doctor ‘told speed camera operator: If I ever treat you you’ll be dead’

Dr David Heal was allegedly verbally aggressive, on two occasions, towards operators of mobile speed cameras and is accused of striking one operator

A doctor threatened to kill a speed camera operator if he ever became his patient, a misconduct hearing was told yesterday.
David Heal leapt from his Porsche to swear at the operator and attempted to knock his hand to stop him photographing the car, the General Medical Council heard.
He allegedly added: ‘If you ever come to me for treatment, I will make sure you die.’
The doctor had, it was claimed, previously abused a female speed camera operator while complaining about a ticket he was given.

The alleged outbursts, which took place in Hove, Sussex, in 2007 and 2008, were two of a string of occasions when the medic allegedly lost his temper.
One one occasion he shoved an elderly care home patient who did not want to go to hospital into an ambulance, it was alleged.
Selva Ramasamy, for the GMC, told the hearing Heal injured the elderly female patient, known as AA, at the Caburn House care home in Hove in January 2009.
He said the doctor was called to help transfer the patient late at night because ambulance staff found her ‘very distressed’.
When Heal arrived, he was heard saying, ‘I have not got time for this’, said Mr Ramasamy. ‘He then placed his hand on her shoulder, and forcibly walked her to the ambulance.
‘At that point, AA was very upset, she was screaming and yelling that she didn’t want to go.’

The doctor pushed the woman up the steps to the ambulance, causing her to fall to her knees, it was alleged. ‘The ambulance staff were very shocked at what they had seen,’ said Mr Ramasamy. ‘They helped AA to her feet, and noticed that she had minor abrasions to her knees.’
After taking up a locum post at Horton hospital in Banbury, Oxford- shire, in August 2009, Heal is said to have ‘become irate’ during a delay in transferring a patient to another medic at the end of his shift.
The GMC was told that the doctor, described as having ¿anger issues¿, was convicted of common assault on a man who attempted to repossess his Porsche when he fell behind on payments (file photo)

He became so angry that he failed to hand over the patient and simply ‘stormed out’, the hearing was told. The GMC was also told that the doctor, described as having ‘anger issues’, was convicted of common assault on a man who attempted to repossess his Porsche when he fell behind on the payments.
He was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs after pleading guilty at Brighton Magistrates’ Court in February this year.
Heal attended yesterday’s hearing in London with his wife, where he admitted most of the charges against him. He accepted that he had ‘forcibly walked’ resident AA to an ambulance and failed to take proper account of her distress, but he denies pushing her.
The doctor also accepted he abused two camera operators, including telling one he would make sure he would die as a patient, but denied swearing at him.
He accepted that he ‘inappropriately’ failed to hand over care of a patient at the Horton hospital.

The hearing continues.
He clearly has some 'anger management' problems as the article already suggests.
It is therefore not out of his character for him to suggest this to the operator.
It does show though the level to which those at the extreme end of the scale are prepared to go.
Unintended consequences perhaps ? Another 'effect' of speed cameras ?
I do think though that camera's add greatly to people stress and frustration levels and that is not good for the welfare of the Nation nor for road safety as a whole.

Without knowing the details of this case, it seems unusual that the driver had any physical contact with the camera operator at all. It certainly isn't typical to stop to remonstrate with a mobile van setup. You wouldn't know if you had been pinged anyway.
