Patch, as far as your comments go about only being able to reach 56 MPH in a mini anyway, you obviously have never driven one :P

Actually I used to have a mini (proper one not a BMW one) and when I blew up the engine it was re-fitted with a 1300 cc racing engine from the workshop of a friend who had it left over from racing them. Went like the proverbial shit off a shovel but as it only had drum brakes you couldn't stop it for want of trying. On full accelleration the bonnet catch used to give up trying and the bonnet would fly open, hence it was retrofitted with two bungees.

The comment was made with a little devil smilie which I hoped would let mini owners everywhere realise that I was being sarcastic.

As for delaying you, no intention of doing so and I am sure that if the mini organisers let the police at Membury know they are not part of the speed protest the police will let you go before us. Good luck on the day.

Paul, I've contacted MiniWorld and they will call you.

Thanks. I've spoken to them. This is going to work out fine.

You're supposed to be leaving Membury at 10am - we're supposed to be arriving at 10am and leaving at 11am. We'll tell folk not to arrive early, and your organisers will do their best to ensure that you leave sharpish.

Your stragglers will meet our early birds. Sounds fine to me.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT YOU GUYS HAVE DECIDED TO PROTEST ON MY FIRST MINI EVENT

I have been looking forward to this day since purchasing my pride and joy and ask you this one question:

What do you want to achieve from this protest?

I live in Northampton, the home of the modern speed camera, and they have been working on the M1 for some time now.

For one thing I would say the law is the law - if you break it you should be punished in line with the law - no matter how trivial.

So why only motorists and not burglars? Perhaps motorists and burglars should be treated the same by the justice system. People who drive at 75mph on a motorway should be sent to Alton Towers for a nice holiday...that'll show 'em.
Didn't mean to take this off topic so I'll stfu now :)

Aaanyway, as posted above... no problems - minis will leave as the first lot of us will arrive. :) Hope you have a nice drive 8-)

Actually we may have a problem, the weather forecast is suggesting rain on that day and theres a very real chance of a lot of minis breaking down and blocking the motorway completely :o

Do you still have to put the rubber glove on the distributor cap like I used to have to with mine?

It's a bad law being rigidly enforced for profit! Hopefully this is a start.

Wish I could make it - would have come down early and checked out the Minis - but not to be thanks to the short notice of this and a friend's wedding.

I for one hope that this is not a one-off - there is talk about a law being planned banning cars over 15 years old from the roads. I don't fancy this much - do you?

Have a good day!

Hmmm would this be the Mini weekend that has ruined the weekends of new MINI owners who have been on the run for the last couple of years and had abuse and eggs thrown at them, despite them owning classic mini as well :?

For months, hundreds of Mini owners have been looking forward to next weekend, it's the MiniWorld Riviera Run, and 400 plus Minis will be travelling from Reading Services to Newquay in Cornwall, stopping at most of the services along the way to pick up more Minis.

So...this'll be a Mini Adventure then?

They won't like that, to be associated with the new/BMW MINI, some that have been on the run have been a little anti social towards those who have turned up in a new MINI. In fact bordering on criminal damage in some cases :o :o

You never know - there may be another "coach fire", or an "over-turned car transporter", or a "chemical tanker spillage", all of which have recently caused the total closure of the M4 in both directions for hours.

That would probably spoil the day for all of us!

Were they attributed to speed  If they had put cameras on the M4 they wouldn't have happened

I still think the Mini lot should join in with our 'go slow' and then there would be no problem. If the protest is stopped because a small group of people find it an inconvenience then it makes a mockery of what a protest is supposed to be about. This is intended to cause some disruption, otherwise we'd just blow raspberries at the talivans whilst farting in their general direction!

They werent attributed to speed
The drivers have more chance of having accidents through looking for speed cameras

You've probably just ruined ours! :banghead: :furious:

Some of the Mini-mad felines are intending to go to this event. However, they are are not overly bothered by the protest and and are looking forward to joining in - since it will not disrupt them too much!

Wildy and self considered joining in the mayhem ... but it's a bit far for us and we have kittens to consider. Some of the felines (not MiniWorld) intend to join in the fun.

Minikay ... whichever weekend is chosen - someone will be inconvenienced....that's the whole point being demonstrated: slowing down creates jams and more pollutution as well.

I'd look at it as having the opportunity to go to Miniworld and do your bit to up the protest.

A s I understand it... they intend to NIP you for 10%. If you are overtaking - you would need to be 10% +6 to do do and retain the two second gap to ensure safety. That's reality mate.

Don't believe me?

Well... got IAM. RoSPA, HPC and stuff under my belt... and have travelled extensively in EU - and Germany because of relatives.

It's a bad law and we need to address it. Would not matter when staged - it would affect someone.

Members of this family are going to this Mini event. However, they will be joining other family members in the protest. Wildy and self are too far away

We have our own bones of contention with Lancs and Cumbria. But we will be there in spirit - supporting those who are participating.
