I was driving along a road which was a 30 but i thought it was a 40 and as I passed the speed camera which was facing the opposite direction, but didnt' see a car on the other side. is it possible to catch people speeding on the opposite side of the road?

Also, I wasn't supposed to be keeping my car, so when i taxed it, i kept the log book because someone else was supposed to be buying it the next day, but they didn't and i forgot the renew the logbook!!! what happens if i was caught? it isn't registered to me but i bought it through a car market, can they trace me????? HELP!!!!!

One of my Grandfathers used to have a saying "Half the lies he says aint true" - Motto of scamerati nowadays??

Suggest you have a look on the net (ABD links are a good way of finding out info) and verify the folllowing - though no doubt someone else will correct ( please do so if bits wrong).
Due to flash, Gatso s only check your speed as you pass them , recording your no rear plate ,not safe to flash in your face ,especially at night.(Also our clever prat, has forgotten about the problems with doppler effect , the gatso aint as clever as he makes out) (Mind you our "safety" pratnership "experts" don't see anything wrong with blinding drivers and causing a "convenient" accident)
Truvellos normally only take a picture of your front ( though there is a site that shows them taking rear pictures), to stop the arguement about driver.

The bit about tracing you - read the relavent section on http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/vehicles.htm about continuous ownership.

JJ has been caught - his description is here -http://www.hyphenologist.co.uk/killfile/anti_troll_faq.htm

Yes and Yes.

Yes very helpful JJ and about what I'd expect.
Right then... The cameras can track both ways. Where I live camera vans sit on one side of the dual carriageway (A470) and targets vehicles on the other side sneaky eh!

As for your registration problems, then yes there is the possibility of you being traced. When you bought it from the car market, the car market should have sent off their part registration document with your details on it, and the DVLA should have this.

Now are you more concerned about being punished for failing to register your car, or are you hoping you wont get a speeding ticket because you think you may not be able to be traced :?
The registration won't be a problem, but you need to do it NOW, as it is an offence not to register your car. The DVLA shouldn't make an issue of it, and it would be wise to put in a little note explaining the situation.

As for the speeding element, well you may not have been caught, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Thanks for the bit about vans tracking other side Neil - i usualy treat Talivans as doing the opposite of what you'd think any way, just in case (as scamerati are sneaky B******S anyway).Found out personally that nowadays some car dealers are expecting new owners to sort out the dvla side of things themselves - excuse was in my case that their involvment add an extra driver to the ownership details (e.g. - i buy it new , trade it in, they sell it , car then has 3 owners, not 2 ) and lowers value.

so how can it be sneaky to catch offenders on the other carriageway

The clue is in the words, "50mph dual-carriageway".

Excepting for in urban areas with large numbers of pedestrians etc, how can a 50mph speed limit be justified on a dual-carriageway?
To warrant that sort of speed limit the road must have been extremely poorly designed.
If the speed limit is set too low then the majority of 'offenders' are doing nothing worse than driving at something approaching the 'natural' speed for the road.

Just for the record - I have been caught once - after more than 25 years of accident-free driving, by a very inconspicuous van in a layby on a rural dual-carriageway - without any signs.
And I was on this and similar forums for years before that happened, so it's not sour grapes.

Cheers
Peter

I've been done twice.

Once on the North Road in Cardiff - the talivan was hiding in the car park. Bastard revenue raising scumbag. No signs, or anything - I bet he paid for him and his van that afternoon.

Once on the A449, again by a talivan - on asking where it was, I was told that was confidential and priviledged information - my arse it is. The van was on the opposite carriageway parked dangerously, taking snaps of cars overtaking slow moving vehicles - thats damned sporting of you chaps.

How the people operating these sleep at night I never know - I bet the words "performance related pay and bonuses" is on their contracts somewhere!

yes the camera operator is responsible for the design and layout of the road, i designed this 50 mph speed limit 20 years or so before i was born so i am a very very clever chappy.
anyone with a little bit of sense might realise that performance related pay is rubbish, site total today 3 sites 6 hours enforcing 1 offender , now if i was on PRP would i have gone there, i think not

They call it a "loss leader" in sales. So long as you are making your overall profit as stated in the rules.

BTW in case you forgot..http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/page/dft_rdsafety_032652.pdf

Handbook of Rules and Guidance for the National Safety Camera
Programme for England and Wales for 2005/06 aka Scamerati Mugging by Numbers colouring book wrote:
Compliance with these rules has no bearing on the enforcement of offences detected by the use of safety cameras. Non-compliance with these rules and guidelines by a partnership, or representative of a partnership, does not provide any mitigation of, or defence for, an alleged offence under current UK law committed by a driver or registered keeper.

Ultimate get out clause in the preliminary statement - roughly translated "if we want to fuck you, we will, and there's bugger all you or anyone else is gonna do about it, so be a luv and hand over the £60, bend over and take the 3 points like a man."

They are panicing - they've had to invent a new form of injury to line up alongside KSI's

The new ones are called PIC - Personal Injury Collisions...

They include KSI's but also include an absolutely desperate pandering to the camera mad folk in this country...

slight – an injury of a minor character, such as a sprain, bruise or cut,
which is not judged to be severe, or slight shock requiring road-side
attention. This definition includes injuries not requiring medical
attention.

This smacks of complete and utter desperation in order to get the injury figures up to justify more mugging machines.
