i thought that speed cameras werent supposed to flash in peoples face (is this a ACPO guideline?) yet truvelo's do flash in the drivers face when the vehicle is very near to it. is there any point in me complaining to the authorities about this being dangerous or something - might put a spanner in the works? i like causing scamera partnerships to use up "admin time" on letters, queries, emails etc - then they might have less resources to process NIP's.

i noticed the gato's in thorney on the A47 near peterboro used to flash people in the face (but not "nick" them) and they had to stop them doing it. they had them all painted black in thorney but now they redone them all yellow.

If you are going to write then I suggest you were a cyclist who was blinded by their camera and almost swerved into the path of a speeding car. :o

Truevelo cameras have a magenta filter over the flash. This is a type approval condition. It doesn't stop me from getting a steady trickle of complaints from drivers who say they were shocked and blinded by the flash. Maybe in some cases the filter is missing or broken. Maybe some drivers are more sensitive than others to the flash.

But my best guess is that if you're unlucky enough to be looking directly at the damn thing when it flashes (especially in lower lighting conditions when your iris is larger) it is blindingly bright. If you're not looking directly at it, it isn't so bad.

I wonder what the ramifications would be if it could be shown that one of these cameras had temporarily blinded someone and actually caused an accident. Possibly maiming or killing someone?

ANy comments?
