Having recently been convicted of travelling at 36 mph in a 30 mph limit (few other cars around, wide road, dry, good visibility) I have made a conscious effort to now stick within the 30 mph speed limit, I glance at the speedo every few seconds, to make sure that I'm operating within the law.

Strange thing is that by driving at 28/ 29 mph I seem to provoke the driver behind into some sort of road rage. On two occasions recently I have been the subject of some angry fist waving, lights flashing, horn blowing. One middle aged "Gentleman" in a white Toyota gave me a Vee sign as he raced past at around 50 mph, and all this because I was sticking to the speed limit.

I'm not saying that my prosecution was unfair, I have admitted liability and paid my sixty quid. I'm not a nutter behind the wheel, on many occasions I have been accused by work colleagues of going too slow for their liking.

Two thoughts then, should we have a variable speed limit which is subject to the time of day, and or the weather?

Can the authorities take more notice of aggessive or bullying behaviour on the road?

I don't see how cameras will stop the intimidation of drivers who try to keep within the speed limit, or other loutish antisocial behaviour?

More traffic patrols are needed. Many say the cameras are there purely to generate revenue, can some of that money be put into installing more Police patrols on the roads to offer a more balanced view of people's driving habits?

Yours, guilty as charged, Ric.

Hi Ric

Sorry to hear you got speeding ticket!

But your last comments are exactly why we are anti-scamera!

More trapols to use judgement, prosecute the dangerous twazaks who actually cause the KSIs, and give words of wisdom to the marginals like yourself.

As for ditching the tailgater from hell - see the thread on here and the dedicated page here on Paulie's site for sound advice!
