From the EDP

Mrs Voysey has called for increased sentencing powers for speeding offences. She believes that more motorists caught driving at potentially fatal speeds should face bans.

Everyone take note of this argument and claim.

30mph is a potentially fatal speed - in fact the general claim is that 50% of pedestrians struck at 30mph will die. And in practice, all speeds are 'potentially fatal'. Crashes with a delta v (change in speed during event) of 60mph are almost always fatal to car occupants.

The local police are very scathing of Steve's activities which wont go down well - they are all supposed to play the same tune!

Are they really, strange none have said so. Perhaps you should tell them to get in touch with his office.

I hope that Steve doesnt manage to track down these individuals - they might get a bit narked at his antics!
It seems they prefer to sit back and lob depth charges instead!

The way I heard it, officers at Carleton were critical of talivan drivers who cannot even get the vans out the car park without scraping past the police vehicles parked close by!

You see - they are missing the driving skills of the like of Ian H already - and I noticed Steve did not see fit to deny it!! (Thanks for the info! Just up the Torpex content next time!!)

Exactly.
And, more to the point, why did a car crash into her at 83mph when the driver ought to have seen a stationary car in good time to stop?
People are too quick to blame speed for accidents which happen because someone wasn't paying attention to the road. What if he was only doing 60mph, but still (in all probability) killed her? Would that somehow have made it OK?

Cheers
Peter

Amy was killed in March 2004 as she sat in her static car following a minor collision with a moped. As she telephoned for help a vehicle travelling at 83mph hit her vehicle causing it to explode. The driver was fined £300 and given seven penalty points, avoiding a disqualification.

Hmm, the speed quoted seems very precise. :? And not particularly excessive.

Anyway, if Amy had just had a minor collision there is a chance she herself was guilty minutes early of a driving offence which her mother wants 'strict and harsh penalties for'' and not 'trivialised'. A lot of campaigners seem to want these very harsh penalties for other people's friends and families but not their own.
