Fact 1: All locals on Anglesey crawl along, carefully avoiding exceeding the speed limit by even 1 mph.

Fact 2: The other weekend on a Saturday there was a fatal smash where somebody got fed up with being stuck in a queue of slow moving traffic, overtook illegally, and crashed head on into another vehicle.

Fact 3: If you do 35 mph in a 30 area and are caught by a Talivan, you _will_ get a NIP. I can confirm this as it happened to me the day after the fatal smash.

Fact 4: The Chief Constable is called Brunstrom.

Fact 5: The North Wales "safety camera partnership" has the motto "arrive alive".

Well I arrived alive, but sadly not certain others. The question is whether the fatalities were because of or in spite of the "arrive alive" hard line speeding policy. As for me, expect one less tourist family next year...

Hi Nedsram, good to see another familiar face here :)

Commiserations on becoming another victim of Brunstrom's reign of terror :(

I think Brunstrom is a secretive Welsh Nationalist who wants to drive the English from the land of their fathers. At long last this power-pissed prick has the tools to do it with.

I think we should let them quietly go back to sheep shagging to be fair

We go to Wales less and less these days. Not seen any improvement in actual driving standards on the occasions we go there either. More proof fromreal experience that driving standards may be slower - but hazard percception are limited to "spot the scam!" and basic COAST principles ppear to be lacking.

Is he even Welsh? Doesn't sound much like it. And some of his ideas... I'm not even sure he's from this planet, never mind these islands.

What, Brunstrom? Should have guessed from the surname. Hmmm :scratchchin:
Wonder if we can we swap him for Bjork?

Interesting point...

To explore it a little further... It occurred to me this morning as I was gently toddling along a normal 40mph residential-area road, partly on "autopilot", that if a new camera had been installed on said road, I probably wouldn't have noticed it. Maybe I'm getting old and need re-training, but I seem to drive concentrating on the things that "matter" - other road users, cyclists, pedestrians etc, but take very little notice of the "street furniture"... So if I wish to look out for cameras I need to split my concentration between its normal area of operation and "looking at the scenery", which is, IMHO, making me a less safe driver.

Any comments?

It sometimes takes me a while to 'register' that a new camera has appeared. I see it, possibly have to slow down for it, but then I forget about it. Eventually though after driving past it many times the old autopilot accepts that it's there and I can once again start to concentrate on the important things on that stretch of road. Still doesn't totally get round the "eyes on speedometer" time when approaching a camera though.

The literal translation of Brunstrom is Brown Stream.

Cheers

It seems to me that what we have on the roads these days is effectively Darwinian selection. Those who can cope well with the environment of strict speed limit enforcement will continue as part of the motoring population. Those that can't will rack up points and eventually either adapt or be removed from the motoring population.

That's not happening is it? Instead we see an arms race of countermeasures, evasion and avooidance techniques. Detectors. Points sharing. Pepipoo. False registration. Cloned numberplates. Incorrect records at DVLA. Laser jammers. Outlaw drivers. And who knows what else.

Interesting theory that. I did see Darwinian selection at work on Anglesey. Impatient driver killed after attempting to overtake a queue of slow drivers at a junction with no overtaking lines. However if you live in the local area, you soon learn where the camers are (or could be), which is the point Capri was making. Indeed on Anglesey you'd better know where they are, because they are positioned so that by the time you see them - assuming you realise what they are - it's too late to avoid being nabbed. Anybody living in Anglesey and racking up 12 points would deserve to lose their licence. It's the rest of us who are used to less fanatical enforcement and don't know where they hide their Talivans that suffer.

My other half's just prompted me to come up a little advert (sorry if it offends anyone)

"This man has killed _*insert statistic here*_ people since his reign of terror began in _*insert date here*_. Is he an Islamic fundamentalist? Is he a sadistic warlord? NO, he's Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom of the North Wales Constabulary. Since his "ARRIVE ALIVE" campagne began in _*insert date here*_ the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads of North Wales has INCREASED by _*percentage*_. Time for a re-think? We think so."

Sorry for the lack of details there, but I'm not 100% sure of the facts and there are people on here that know them better than me.

Simple. If going to N. Wales, fit a broken front number plate and be 'invisible' to Brainstorms looney schemes.
Of course, with the latest rules, you can't buy a new plate until you get home and have your V5, passport, utility bill, etc.

Well there are a lot of internet companies that will gladly sell you a number plate without any docs so long as you promise them it's for show use only....

Do you think anybody cares about the new rules when there is a drink in it for them?
