OK, so I'm taking my son into Albrighton to watch the England-Croatia match at his mate's house. We arrive at Cosford and I pick up the right hand lane at the short section of dual carriageway which turns into a filter for Albrighton after the lights.
Lights are on green so we go through (passing a car turning left in the left lane) and notice a van that has just been uncovered by a passing small lorry sitting in the layby on the opposite side.
Oh poo, its a Scamera van, business end pointing our way. Glance at speeedo, doing 44 (ish) in a 40 limit - phew that's going to be close.
No time to think about it now 'cos we're at the far end of the dual carriageway and indicating right to...oh shit it's happening again.
Captain 'Can't Wait For A Second' pulls out onto the ghost island and is rushing headlong at me. Fortunately he pulls in in time and slows down, probably because of the Scamera which he'll have seen in sufficient time to slow down.
So I sweat on a NIP whilst Mr Bloody Dangerous' antics go totally un-noticed. Marvelous
On the way home a couple of mintes later I noticed a red car in the layby opposite flashing his lights at all and sundry. He got out of his car and shook his fist in good old style at the van

Yes, I'm afraid the Albrighton by-pass is a bit of a scamera hot-spot. I fully admit to being Mr Steady-as-she-goes there. They often hang over the bridges at M54 J3 (A41) nearby as well. Someone somewhere has decided that it's a "speeding hot spot" and is determined to stamp it out!

Wait just one cotton pickin' second here.
Just driven back past the spot to get my lad and noticed something. The Scamera van was parked facing the wrong way on a layby in a dual carriageway. How the hell had he gotten in there :?: Without making some dodgy maneouvre in teh carriageway that is?
Hmmm, wish I'd had my camera.

Wife has been telling me all about some talivan muppets she saw stopped on zig zags and near pelican near her place of work.

She has sounded off about it elsewhere!

Wonderful people - yet to see them play fair and square - like adhere to guidelines - and actually do something that had 'owt to do with safety - like park up properly and target OTT speeders only!

Well I've lived and worked in the area for 5 years now. There have been two bad crashes at the Cosford junction, both involving vehicles jumping the lights - nearly came a cropper like this myself one day

There was a fatality at the Albrighton end of the Cosford dual carriageway about 3 years ago - a trainee from the base was killed. Won't confess to knowing the circumstances though.

IMHO the biggest problem on this stretch of road is the proliference of overtaking in the face of oncoming traffic - I've pointed out the two (well three now) scares I have personally had. My wife works in Wolverhampton and, when I lived at Cosford, my blood would run cold whenever I heard an emergency service siren heading up the A41 at about the time she was due home.
