Saw this ... I can see it has good points but also see some downsides.

Car Sticker

What's the general view?

It should say "stick to the limit but don't expect it to help road safety"

How about "stick to the highway code" much better

I have got one on my motorbike.....it says "stick to the rev limit"

You wouldn't catch me with that on my car.

The site in general is just totally accepting of all the DfT & SCP bull, simply repeating the "If you hit a pedestrian at 35mph..." statements. Well I wouldn't be doing 35mph, because I would have spotted the pedestrian in the first place and moderated my speed rather than driving along staring at the speedo confident that 30mph must be safe because somebody stuck up a tin plate to say so.

is that because you would be driving too fast for me to catch up with you/

I don't think the sticker says that - it is a message to other road users that the driver has reasons to stay under the limit. It might as well say 'don't tailgate me as there is no way I will let you goad me to go faster'.

Not sure I would put one on either, perhaps not for the same reasons though.

Confident? 100% confident? Poor road design may have hidden that pedestrian? They may have been doing something entirely stupid like running out of an entry. You may have sneezed. That statement sounds like overconfidence to me.

Maybe you should send them the new SS sinking ship logo.

hmm. A round sign with a red border and a speed camera symbol in the middle. Strictly, this sign means "Speed Cameras Prohibited".

If only.

So make the sticker say "9 points, please pass" and read the Safe Speed tailgating page. As it is the wording just makes her look like another sandalista, even though she's probably not, and besides there are better ways to lose deal with tailgaters than relying on a bit of sticky backed plastic.

Handy, you are misreading what I thought I wrote:

"I would have spotted the pedestrian in the first place and moderated my speed"

Rather than

"driving along staring at the speedo confident that 30 mph must be safe..."

This doesn't mean that I am confident, it means that the "stick to the speed limit and you will be safe" message is making others confident (incorrectly so).

Your suggested poor road design is exactly a scenario where my speed would have been moderated down such that I can stop in what I can see to be clear - sticking to the 30 limit is just wrong in that situation, but is what the official message suggests is correct. My COAST style driving means that in most cases I would have anticipated the possibility of them running out of an entry, but there is, I admit, the possibility that they would have run out so fast and so late, that despite the extra space that I would have allowed for the blind entry, they have dived in front of me. Well then, I am sorry but it qualifies for a Darwin award - such a person is just as likely to have run into a baby pushchair and knocked it flying into the road in front of an oncoming bus - perhaps they deserve a little criticism too?

You cannot drive to cover the most unlikely situations, just the possible ones.

I wouldn't have such a sticker because to me it implies support for the camera scheme - if it had instead been crossed through like this, then it gives a totally different message:

Bloody hate them. :x

Bad idea, because some people think that would be your view on speed policy and be resentful and show aggression towards you. I'd rather something closer to our views so that people can at least smile about it and those who don't agree with us (narrow minded fools) can huff and puff all they like.

Slight OT but if you look at the Facts & Figures section...

Quote:
A ‘super camera’ is planned for the UK in 2006, which can monitor up to six lanes at once and watch speeders who change lanes, including motorcycle users.

Does this mean we could soon see Brumstrom in a red suit with the letter S on it and wearing his underpants on the outside?

Is it a bird? No... Is it a plane... No... IT'S SCAMERAMAN!

I was thinking of putting a "My other car's a Mini" sticker in my Porsche, but that, of course, would be a lie

Cheers

I was thinking about............

"9 points, please pass"

"yes officer, it's insured"

Have a Scamera road sign with a line through it next to "Go nick some real criminals"

I already have a T-Shirt which my Dad (a graphics designer) made for me and him which basically has photoshopped the "Kill Your Speed" road sign with the steering wheel and the hands at the top and replaced the text with "SPEED THRILLS" Thank god I wasn't wearing it when the copper caught me doing 98 on an empty motorway! :o

Well, there is scientific evidence of global warming on Mars, so it must be all the SUVs driven around at high speed up there - plenty of work for Elvis and others.

Cheers
