Broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson has been hit in the face with a custard pie at a degree ceremony.

The outspoken Top Gear presenter was at Oxford Brookes University to collect an honorary degree in recognition of his "passion for engineering".

But the decision has proved to be controversial, and protesters, including members of Oxford's Green Party, assembled outside the presentation dressed in Clarkson's trademark tight jeans and wigs.

Security was tight and police outnumbered the the protesters, who waved banners reading On Yer Bike Clarkson at the gates.

But one woman managed to gain access to a media call after the degree ceremony.

She dashed out in front of the television cameras and, as Mr Clarkson posed in his cap and gown, removed what appeared to be a custard pie from a wrapped-up newspaper and hit him full in the face.

The startled presenter maintained his cool, quipped "good shot" and posed for a few more pictures before beating his retreat.

Mr Clarkson has been criticised for engaging in stunts such as driving a 4x4 through an environmentally-sensitive peat bog in Scotland and inciting people to break the law by hiding mobile phone use while driving.

Speaking before the assault, he defended his record on environmental issues, saying: "I do have a disregard for the environment. I think the world can look after itself and we should enjoy it as best we can."

Nearly 3,000 people signed an online petition against Clarkson receiving the honorary degree.

Keep up the good work Mr Clarkson. :D

What a waste of time pie-ing Clarkson  Like he's going to care. Sounds like he dressed down for the occasion ( no surprises there) and with hsi money the dry cleaning bill won't even be noticed. Bit I do look forward to the next series of Top Gear - the other two will probably rip the p :censored: out of him over it.

I must admit that I can't help but like Clarkson. The rational part of me despises him, but his rants are just so much fun to listen to, and the guy is great at getting publicity and balancing out the messages received by the public.

Being a thrifty Yorkshireman I'm suprised he didn't eat the pie and thank the protestor for it.

The only thing thats dissapoints me about old JC is that hes allowed his sheer terror of motorbikes to get the better of him, and attempts to throw scorn and ridicule at those of us that have managed to tame the beasts.

The sad thing is that he rants on about fast cars and apparently having to hold on for dear life! I'm afraid hes really missing out. My 600 can out accelerate most if not all sports cars and you really do have to hold on. I'm really looking forward to getting either a fireblade or gixxer 1000 next year.

Come on JC, cut us some slack. We can piss all over anything on four wheels and you really do need to hold on. You only show your ignorance and or cowardice by haveing a pop at the fastest road users out there.

Jules

have to say i find clarkson pretty distasteful on many levels.

the best bit of top gear lately was him doing high mu oversteer in a TVR (i think) which snapped back a bit quickly and smacked his head against the side window

They've got a rather good photograph on the T2000 site of him covered in custard-pie. They then go on to berate him for his "yobbish behaviour" - and don't appear to see the irony.. :)

Well at last.
Clarkson has finally found his true vocation which many of us have known for a long time, a Clown! :jester:
All we need is for the other 2 jokers from TG to don red noses and big shoes and they are all in their perfect places.

Ah - but his co-presenters ride push bikes to commute around London - per one TV prog I watched ages ago. Cannot for the life of me remember the title - don't watch that much telly ....unless it's "Top Gear" as I find it amusing or anything remotely wheels related :D

As for the online petition - our pet troll was recognisable on many comments! when I skimmed through it.

Clarkson's a top man, it always makes me laugh when students get on their high horses, putting their points to the rest of us. It must because they are so experienced at life.

When reality sets in, or in other word, when they start to live in the real world, it's interesting how many of them ditch their Greenpeace memberships, the save the peruvian guinea pig foundations etc. Perphaps they growup and realise that they are very small fish in a very big fishtank and that they want that Nissan skyline after all.

Their petition to block his award failed then......hardly surprising.

I have just checked the web site..

Transport 2000 has called for Top Gear to be scrapped and replaced with a new programme promoting sensible driving in sensible vehicles. It is currently in discussions with the BBC, scoping a programme along those lines that campaigners have provisionally labelled "Third Gear".

These guys are priceless "scoping" means the BBC are trying to say "why don't you just f*ck off" but are too polite to say it.

   The stupid Troll (I saw a pic, and she looked a bit... ugh) that pied Clarkson probably got a bit p*ssed when he said "mmm, I like the pie, but its a bit sweet". :D :D

I think it would be unbelievasbly funny to pie the feminist/T2000'er with a meat pie at another anti-car ralleigh!

The irony is, not only the "yobbish-behaviour" thing, but that this pie thing has only restored my faith in Clarkson further, because he took it so well.

Oh, I signed that petition with a message of how pathetic they were left in the "I signed because" section. THEY DELETED IT    !!

Also, since they deleted it, it shows that theyve skipped numbers! So they are in the wrong!! 8-) I cant remember the exact number, but it was around 2,500 and something, that it skips a number. Showing that they have skipped, therefore spoilt theyre petition.

This thread has prompted me to take a look at the T2000 webshite for the first time.

My GOD! what utter bollocks.
The only thing I couldnt find on there was a campaign to have hopscotch squares painted on dual carriageways.

Most of their comments regarding road safety seem to revovle around speed reductions. Tell the little shits to go play in the park, then they wont get run over.

The site and its supporters are clearly lentil eating sandalistas, probably too old and senile to drive properly, and probably mostly women, or men who should have been born as such!

I never seen such utter drivel away from an SCP site.

If I was Clarkson, I would have that bitch prosecuted, the fact that she was a Greenpeace moron is even more reason. If anyone is more polluting, its her, with the excess CO2 (and 2nd hand cannabis smoke) being spouted out of her mouth!

I think that Clarkson's response to this moron wa excellent, i'm sure they expected him to throw a wobbly yet he took it very very well. I think this stunt proves what a good sport he is and that it backfired somewhat for the commy MF students.

Just had a thought. I wonder what the reaction would have been if a well known and particularly outspoken sandalista had been pied by a petrolhead. I might be wrong but I suspect they'd have probably gone apeshit and ranted at length about it typifying the irresponsible thuggish behaviour of drivers.

But everyone knows that greenpeace do-gooders, particularly of the long haired student idealist generation are trouble making scum, hardly news is it?
