I had a phone call today from the Dorset Police, who I use to help out with their charitable activities.

He started by saying that they are starting an initiatve on Drunk driving, crime prevention and something close to his heart for obvious reasons, racism! I din't know what was abvious about that, perhaps he thought I could see him over the phone?

I mentioned speed cameras and he got very defensive, very fast. During the heated debate (fight) he asked what sort of car I drove. When I told him that I drove a Audi Quattro, he told me that I should drive a slower car, and then I wouldn't be targetted so much?

I tried to impress on him that people being prejudiced against people like me, who have worked their guts out all of their lives, brought up two kids on his own and finally managed to buy himself a decent car to have something to show for it all, was no better than being prejucidiced against someone for being a different race, creed or colour.

Unfortunatley he seemed to be on transmit and not receive.

I did tell him that I would NOT be giving any more to Dorset Police as my employees had already given to one of their collection vans and I had to pay extra insurance now for the companies vehicles.

So, let me get this clear. A policeman phoned you to solicit charitable donations but screwed up the call by getting heated and defensive about cameras.

Not exactly a shining example of public (or customer) relations. Was he phoning in works time or in his break?

I would assume that he was on duty and doing it as part of his job. I must admit I didn't ask though.

I have a depot in Sheffield and the South Yorkshire Police tried the same thing a few months ago. I just told the lady that I had already given to one of their collection vans, but she didn't understand. It finished quite politley with her after I explained it, but this man today was on the verge of being rude.

I do try and stay very polite with policemen

Taxpayer's money is paying the wages of people to ring up the taxpayer and beg for money? The mind boggles.
