Quote:
TOP cop Richard Brunstrom was blasted last night — for spending thousands probing “anti-Welsh” comments by TV’s Anne Robinson.

The North Wales Chief Constable ordered the investigation after The Weakest Link host called folk from the principality “irritating and annoying”.

Mr Brunstrom — famous for his speed camera war on drivers — has always REFUSED to reveal how much the case cost.

But yesterday the figures were revealed under the Freedom of Information Act.

And Mr Brunstrom came under immediate fire for shelling out £3,800 to investigate.

It was also disclosed the chief constable used a superintendent, a detective chief inspector and two detective inspectors on the probe.

“Queen of Mean” Anne made the tongue-in-cheek remarks on BBC2’s Room 101.

A total of 96 HOURS were spent on the inquiry — and the final figure did not include administration costs.

Two officers even made a 400-mile round-trip to London to interview Greg Dyke, who was then the BBC’s director general.

But after their extensive investigation, North Wales Police announced NO action would be taken against the acid-tongued star.

Peter Rogers, an independent councillor on Anglesey, last night slammed the waste — and the secrecy surrounding it.

He also attacked North Wales Police for senior officers probing Anne while real crimes were ignored.

Mr Rogers said: “It’s appalling that we have had to drag the information out of them this way. Twice I put down questions in the Welsh Assembly seeking the cost, but was told it wasn’t available and hadn’t been worked out.

“It was the most stupid thing to investigate when there are real criminals who should be occupying the time of such high-ranking officers.

“For instance, I reported an elderly woman’s property had been destroyed.

“But I’ve never been contacted about it since.

Good to see tax payers money being well spent..

There is the possibility that the merging of the Police forces will result in a reduction in the numbers of CCs - perhaps North Wales' favourite police officer and political embarrassment will be offered early retirement?

I don't think he'd worry about that as long as they do it slowly.

Words fail me at the sheer ineptitude of Brunstom.

Anne maybe an obnoxious person, but some find her entertaining and when does insulting one of the Kingdoms of the UK rank up there with stopping burglaries or resolving real crime.

more to the point, since when is someone not allowed to express an opinion that they find some group "irritating and annoying"? If she had said French or Americans instead of Welsh would Brunstrom have still gone after her? If not, why not???

Not just he’s ineptitude. It just proves how perverse he actually is, looks like he has a weakness with nationality though.... For a man in his position he should be able to shrug of remarks made by Ann Robinson (or anyone else).

Perhaps a job monitoring snails, preferably in some remote outpost of the french ( though why we should hate the french so much) snail breeding empire would suite him

Richard Brunstrom, you are the weakest link. Goodbye.

Shades of megalomania, bordering on insanity IMHO.

I read in the press today that North Wales Police are going to investigate our beloved leader, Tony B Liar, for the comments attributed ti him by an ex member of his staff in a book, regarding his comments about the "Bloody Welsh" during the Welsh elections.
Shades of lunacy and job suicide methinks.
