Speeding fines incurred by drivers of National Car Rental vehicles have risen by 102% since the beginning of the year, amounting to more than £150,000. August figures for parking fines have also shown a big jump, with a 20% increase on January's figures.

National's figures reveal that all PCNs (including speeding fines, parking fines, bus lane fines, congestion charge fines and traffic offences) incurred by customers have risen by almost 63% since the beginning of this year.

"These findings are very worrying," said Brian Jayes, NCR's Vice President of UK Operations. "Whilst we had predicted this scenario at the end of last year, we were pleasantly surprised in the first quarter of 2005 when we saw penalty charges drop by 12%. Now, we have seen a massive jump and we are really hoping that this upward trend does not continue."
