Wardens have had their chips (According to the article ,not in that shop)

"Trouble has been brewing in the small town(Waterfoot) for years as the ranks of wardens targeting shoppers has swelled" and the chip shop is leading the revolt.

Ahh not far from me is Waterfoot! It's only small and is exactly the type of place that needs passing trade, as opposed to scaring people away. Why or why are councils intent on killing off local trade like this? Don't they realise that if they keep harassing drivers like this they will eventual turn the place into a ghost town? The exact same thing is happening in Burnley, the wardens are pouncing on everybody, and it's no suprise to find that local traders are citing this as a reason for a marked drop off in trade. The councils wonder why we all do our shopping at supermarkets and the Trafford Centre(about 40mins from Burnley or Waterfoot), but the answer is obvious.

I'm not suggesting people are going to drive all that way to get fish and chips, but it will only encourage the growth of souless McDonalds and tacky family pubs.

Unfortunately this is one area where we (or rather certain) motorists are our worst enemy - look at the congestion near chippies and takaways and he growth of the "decriminalised parking market" and its easy to see how the parking market can get backing for it's activities.But again a lot of councls could remember just who pays their wages - the public and shopkeepers and provide some facilities to allow for safe parking around places like these - after all it's not as if someone's going to park there for an hour or more.
As for the "soulless MacDs " - always thought the burgers were meatless, now the fish have no soul

zigackly. you can't park anywhere for lack of spaces and lurking wardens, end up using muck-F!&@ing-donaulds cos you're starving hungry and they have a drive-thru then come home to telly and see government sponsered "you should eat more healthy" adverts on telly

remind me again why do we celebrate the capture & slaying of guy fawkes?

But to suggest that their concern is traffic flow would be to give justification to their petty minded and often mean spirited approch to enforcing parking regulations.

I draw a strong parellel between parking and speeding. You can be parked illegally but not inconsiderately but by the same token you can be parked legally but inconsiderately, plus not forgettting illegal and inconsiderate. The wardens are like speed cameras, no discretion and no common sense. If parking wardens were there to keep the roads free from obstruction and keeping a check on those who are abusing short-stay parking then I would have no problem. But they are not, they are in a business and that means any degree of common sense or fairness goes out the window.

but this is where the profiteering "ticket anything you can" approach works against drivers making sensible decisions. if you can't park nearby legally you can park dangerously/inconsideratly on the main road right outside the shop where your unattended car is in full view for the 30 seconds or whatever while you're in there and therefore not get ticketed because you can run out and drive off if you see a revenue agent lurking. Or you can be sensible, find a side road a couple of minutes away and probably get ticketed in the time it takes to walk to the shop and back.

Capri+Hairyben - i agree with you , but lets not forget that it was probably the inconsiderate mob that brought out the "parking attendants" in the first place .Now that they are out, like cams, they need to be fed coin.If they can't get it easily - well here's a good example --like some toilets i once saw in Birmingham, sitting in a triangle in the middle of the road, with double yellow lines all round

when

Case 1) disabled driver parks out side shop - blocks road
Case 2) non disabled driver parks outside shop - blocks road
case 3) Police car parks outside shop, operating speed trap.

Road too narrow and all cause congestion - whats the difference?( hint no 3 is legal)

Now busses being held up by cars - isnt that a case of the pot calling the kettle black?
But how often do we see councils putting bus stops in inappropriate places - where a car being stopped would get a ticket.

Nowadays the local authorities are very fiscally orientated and have succumbed to the large bribes by huge supermarket chains etc. and in return the local shops etc are killed off by local politicos-it's called capitalism-soon we will all shop in one big tesco in the middle of each country, there are very many advantages to the councils letting these big out of town shopping marts be built and demolishing small town centres:

(1) No town centre traffic to worry about

(2) Larger more stable employer to create local jobs

(3) More revenue generated

(4) Easier maintained buildings

(5) Basically the private sector runs the show and the council sits back and lets the rent money roll in.

You should go to the chippy in a company van or truck, and one of you sit in it with the hazards on.

I did this the other day and explained to the traffic warden that I was picking up goods from one of the local businesses, and he was decent enough and said that was fine you're allowed to do that.

The goods in question were two foot-long subs from Subway, a chocolate chip cookie and two bottles of coke, but he didn't have to know that part.

simple reply to a police traffic warden is that you / partner are loading / unloading goods you will go asap no problem, if alone leave a note the tw has to document this if a FPT is issued,
