I don't get that impression from fergl100's first post... fair enough if they aren't increasing their speed when the limit rises(if safe), but I don't agree that they should break the law if they don't want to. Well, I suggest that most probably would want to go faster, but are scared by the enforcement. Often the safest roads have the most enforcement because a wide open 30mph road will have more places to stick a camera van. As I've always said, the career and social implications that just getting 3 points can have on a high milage driver are dispropotionatly high.

I drive a lot through the Woodford area in North London, and there is a particular stretch just after you pass the A406 that is 30mph, but I know there aren't any GATSO, the road is wide and visibility is good and you would easily see plod if they were waiting

What I have noticed are three lines in the road similar to the speed trap "DS2" - so I never take my chances. What beats me is why people don't overtake and sit up against my backside, flashing furiously at my door mirror. I always tuck to the left and my side of the road is so wide you could overtake without crossing the centre line

My point being, if a road is suitable for speeds greater than the posted speed limit, it should be suitable for an overtake, too (unless the other side is busy - in which case it's not safe to exceed the limit , given the intelligence of pedestrians)

OOh that irritates me! The worst one is the moron who tailgates you on a D/C rather than overtake...There is alot of urban D/C round Swindon with varied limits as low as 30mph. The number of times someone will crawl up behind you and sit 5 feet off your bumper just because they don't want to exceed the limit to overtake... I generally shed a few mph at which point they can pass within the limit. (and before anyone says it, I'm generally doing the limit or just over according to MY speedo which I know to read a little fast)
