I was travelling back from Southampton last Monday, after picking up my missus from a works night out at about 0030. There is a camera with a blue hood over it on the A3024 (I think). As I approached it I was looking to see if it was still covered, it was so I carried on. I then saw, by the traffic lights several BIBs with a speed gun. Oh shite I thought  . I pulled in. I was told I had been stopped for wandering in the road and speeding. He asked why. I said I was probably wandering as I was trying to see if the camera was still covered and I was probably exceeding the limit as I saw it was still covered. Very pleasant conversation ensued :) .

Anyway he let me off the speeding and breathalysed me, which came out green :) . I guess even they think it is a bit mean to do you for speeding when a camera is covered up and it is night. However had I been doing more than 40? Though I would suggest that more than 40 might be pushing the boundary of safe speed.

I think this was probably a DUI check. Any comments?

Umm, given that he breathalysed you, that seems a reasonable conclusion to draw ;)

Being serious, I would say they were obviously looking for people to breathalyse. Sounds like a bit of proper traffic policing to me.

Sounds very similar to the episode of Traffic Cops whereby they targeted suspect drivers for drink. Agree - have no problems with this. But normally - if someone really suspects they had one too many but feels "lucid" under Mellanby and chances it - they tend to be on limit or under rather than blipping over

Sounds like a reasonable and fair copper to me, we could do with more of the same.
