Hi all

did anyone see the cycling V car in the city debate on GMTV this morning? Ann widecome was criticising cyclists actions and some bloke (anyone remember the name?) was there defending cyclists. he was unbelievable. he was defending cyclists jumping lights and saying that motorists don't obey any laws either so why should they :loco: And that they jump light because it gives them a head start in front of cars? What about that big patch at the front of lights now with a big cycle symbol?

They don't ride in front of the traffic anyway they ride at they side so why do they need a head start? And more importantly why do we need these "cycle areas" at the front of the lights anyway?

So until the cyclists obey these rules I myself will treat them with equal contempt.

Regards

Andrew

They need a head start so they can hold up more traffic, silly!

I saw it. I think he was prompted to act the anarchist cyclist. Seemed a bit uncomfortable.

I am not happy about this pitching cyclist against car argument. Big citys are not the best places to find good car driving or cyclist behavior.

The whole discussion was a bit stage managed to wind people up.

that comment makes about as much sense as what the guy on the program was trying to argue. Doing what you're suggesting just means you'll end up killing someone. Why do you want to lower yourself to that level?

Was not just Anne Widdicombe in "Express" on Wednesday und I agree with many of her points. She was very fair - commented on vulnerability - but more or less said what we've been saying - that we all have responsibility und duty of care for personal safety which extend to considering others as well.

Basically she say same as the two cyclists in CW und ourselves - cyclists need to make selves visible und follow advice of Cycle Craft - which means using C O A S T - und this bounce off pages in Frankin's book und hit in face :P

Does not help when "Waily" report that David Suchet's wife was assualted und punched repeatedly by cyclist who cuaght them up at traffic lights.

"nom du nom du nom und lack of ze leetle grey cells" - all Poirot had done was "toot" lightly to let him know he was there und then overtake.

Ist road rage und assault und I hope they catch him! :x
