Thumbs-up from stolen car youths

A group of smiling youths posed for a speed camera they went past in a stolen car, it has been revealed.

One of them is even shown giving the camera the thumbs-up in the pictures released by Dorset Police.

Officers have only just been able to get hold of the video as part of an ongoing inquiry into the theft of a Ford Escort in Bournemouth in July.

A 16-year-old has been arrested following the theft in Ensbury Park and has been released on police bail.

The Ford Escort was found burnt out in the early hours of 16 July in Hadow Road.

Not that I'm an advocate of CCTV or speed cameras, but fairs fair, this one did actually help solve a real crime for once, mainly due to the stupidity of the criminals involved though.

Yeah. I've given comments on this story today. Here's the unexpurgated photo:

Do you mind if I take a copy of that image and post it on a few other forums, there is a lot of comedy to be had from this.

The paper that gave it to me have an exclusive of some sort. It'd be polite to wait until they publish it in the morning - say 10am?

A speed camera video which was made in Dorset but not by Dorset police? That infers it was Dorset SCP using a ProLaser III at night. Are they allowed to do this?

Doesn't look as if they're wearing seat belts....

...watch out for that sharp turn there lads! :D

Wouldn't it have been ironic if they crashed because they were looking at the camera instead of the road?

This should also remind everyone of the importance of car security, that is, razor blades placed taped discreetly under the column cover. A nice surprise when they shove their little delicate fingers under the column to rip off the column shroud.

Regards

Andrew

I always liked the idea of using a bit of Araldite to glue some small barbed fishing hooks in the same location...

Best bit about it is they wouldn't realise the tips of their fingers had been sliced open because of how sharp the blades are and the adrenalin rush through the actual commiting the crime. First thing they would think is that they had spilled some mad dog 20/20 on themselves because their hands are all sticky! Good for capturing DNA test results as well.

Regards

Andrew

Doesn't that come under the heading of "infringing their human rights" or something?
I'm sure that it would not be allowed under some statute or other.

A householder in Lancashire was prosecuted for hanging a live mains feed onto the brass door knob of his kitchen, because some scrote broke in through the kitchen window and nearly electrocuted himself trying to gain access to the rest of the house.

I once had a Ford Fiesta ( ) which had a toggle switch beneath the dashboard on the passenger side, which isolated the feed to the spark coil.

I didn't know it was there until a passenger inadvertantly knocked it off while looking for a heater vent one winter! :x

These things will happily work at night (Cumbria SCP claimed to use Lidar for night time operations).

Something puzzles me: If this was a video, then why can I see indications of a flash? Why would they act like that in front of a manned site? Why weren’t these idiots pulled immediately? Is the angle of inclination (vertical and horizontal) too great for a manned site? Hence I’m not convinced that was a video still - IMO it’s a photo from a Gatso.

Ah that's ok then. I was worried they might be using their talivans at night. It's bad enough having to stare at the side of the road in case they have that black box hidden away anywhere!

Of course it has to be a fixed gatso really, the talivans have "police" written on them and the portable gatso is very hard to see.

So the speed camera helped get one of them in to court. And the car got burned out. But if a real police officer had stopped them they all would have been identified and the car would still be in one peice. Wonderful human beings.

Well, I'm going to have to eat my words.
I have said for a long time that no scamera has or will ever catch a drunk, drugged, dangerous driver.
Well now its has caught a dangerous driver and his pals.
Does this now mean that the existance of scamera's is justified, NO, a thousand times NO

TUT ,TUT Andy - sounds like an old mate of mine in Oban - thought that all cars should have an anti theft device of an augur fitted under the driving seat - to be activated when thief sat in car - mesy but effective

A customer of mine told me a story about a neighbour of his who got fed up with the little lad next door jumping into the drivers seat of his sports car everytime he left it on his drive with the top down.

He 'accidently' left a wire brush under the seat cover one day. The neighbours were round the next day complaining about what he had done to their sons bum. The police were called and interviewed the car owner but decided not to prosecute.

They've had a few incidents like this in Switzerland - they've struck lucky just once. Wildy has the cuttings sent to her from family over there.

The only time they caught someone was because ither motirists called the police as the 19 year old and his mate literally raced around Berne - with the passenger mooning his bottom at each fixed cam in the town!

Driver and passenger were jailed and banned for three years as I recall...

They were also on cocktail of dring and drugs too. :x

The only thing - the person viewing the photos realised he or she was looking at a very unusual photo. Had joy rider written all over it! Presumably a check on the plate would have revealed that the owner had reported this car as stolen as well - so for once we had person with two braincells instead of the usuall half of one!

Certainly no proof that scams detect stolen cars - can only be done if the person viewing the photo and police bother to check records. Too many cases of harrassment whereby car has been sold on and DFVLA received notice of change of ownership but did not update records - or stolen and no liason betwen prats and police.

This was certainly different because of the very brazen denseness of these lads.

I wouldn't be so sure... They might well have sent a NIP to the RK. (Thinks: worth checking...)

I put in a call to the journalist who broke the story. He's off for a week, but his stand in will check on Monday. If they did NIP the RK then we have a follow-up story... :)

Probably recovering from the hysterical laughing fit he had when this photo was seen.
