I think I might excuse a small amount of frustration in the cycling community when they're confronted with facilities like these:

But to be contrary and nit picking - some of those photos look to me like they are to show cyclists where to cross the road safely. Are they at Toucans? Manchester and other cities up here have a few similar, and I could take a few photos to depict them as "nonsensical" - but in actual fact - they are to lead cyclists to appropriate crossings!


In fairness, I ride a push bike very occasionally, so as occasional "muesli muncher" - I do know what they put up with from the numpties of this world! (I also ride a motorbike, and we ride horses!) We also speed skate and ski (wherever/whenever) especially at that neat little piste we have up here for the "elite few")


Cycle lanes - always use them if they are provided, and do admit to getting a little cross when said cycle lane is blocked by some twazak parking his car in the way! Agree with the chap who wrote the article - best reasoned argument placed by a "muesli muncher" Can identify with all points raised as pedal pusher myself on occassions!

BUT - Cyclists need educating just as much as drivers, and proficiency tests seem to have disappeared altogether!

Have always argued for better education for all road users anyway! But this has got me into "trouble" before with the "muesli muncher" brigade as they seem to see this as some form of attack!

By the way - "muesli munching" is apparently a term used by German speakers to describe "health fanatics" (It's the wife's influence again! )

It always brings a wry smile to my face when I hear cyclists bleating on about motorists flouting the law. I've lost count of the number of times I've witnessed a cyclist blow through a red light, or ride on the pavement.

I've even been shouted at in London for having the audacity to walk on the pavement holding one up!

I agree with you. When these cyclist types start ranting they show themselves up as the extremists they really are. As long as we reply in calm measured tones then we can continue to underline the massive gulf between their fanaticism and our logical reasoning.

It's a bit like the pro/anti camera thing, you simply have to remember who are the extremists and who are the on the side of logic and reason, and act accordingly!

(You'll need to reverse left and right, as the author is from Massachusetts).

I'm really sorry, but I don't think those sorts of comments are helpful - they simply to give ammunition to those who are looking for excuses to snipe at us.

Please let's keep it clean, keep it nice and keep it honest and accurate.

Wrong. You can delete / edit any posts you have made. I know of no forum software that doesn't allow this feature.

You only have issues if someone quotes you before you delete it (but then again, they could have made it up).

Sorry, should have made myself clearer. At any time you can go back and edit / delete a post. The problem is if someone else quotes you, then that is part of their message. I can still go back and delete the original, but I can't touch their quote.
