So whats the view on the new plans to stop spending fpn's on new cameras and spend it on other "Road Safety" (Ahem) elements?

Surely if the nonsense theyve been spouting about how wonderful at saving lives the one eyed cops have been, why would they possibly want to stop putting more up? Think of all the lives athat will be put at risk!

Have they some how deduced that with 6000 odd cameras and £100m+ in fines coming in that the speed cameras have reached their optimum safety benefit? Just how do the before and after results add up? (I think we know the answer to that)

My view is that the death rate has not reduced, (the 40% at cameras sites is laughable, flawed data as we all know), so what justification have they got to keep the 6000+ cameras operational when they havent reduced the casualties.

Regards
Jules

Jules - part way through a parliament, with a very reduced majority , and press flak about giving to the french - it's about diverting attention away from the EU budget.Besides , the tory young pretender is hassling tony and the lib demoprats are lining up on the tory side --he needs good news--- give out promises ( taking a lead from Chirac) and all might be well

It'll be a return to the "Three Es".
Speaking of which, I looked at one pratnership website which proudly trumpeted the giant strides they're taking in that department, namely:

Enforcement: we've put up even more cameras
Education: we've got loads of posters up telling you about our cameras
Engineering: we're going to get some really high-tech cameras

I kid you not.
