Paul gets a quote in an investigation of what is really happens when drivers come across a speed camera or a vehicle activated sign.

They took a hand held speed detector and sampled vehicle speeds 300m after both types of device, and found that 25% of drivers were over 10%+2 after a speed camera while only 16% were doing the same after a VAS.

Apparently there is also a study being done by University of Reading comparing speeds 300m before, at and 300m after a set of speed cameras, and provisional results indicate that drivers return to 95% of their original speed within 300m of the camera. Results will be published next year, but the conclusion is that speed cameras are only effective at the exact spot that they are installed. More evidence that they are achieving nothing apart from being a distraction then - perhaps you should see if you can get some of the data from the University Paul?

I'm sure something similar has been done before which showed drivers were travelling faster than normal after passing a camera.
