New Years eve, I was at a well apointed Hotel in Bowness to see in the New Year, and watch the fireworks... well set them off actually!!
However, when I went to park in the car park, I found it hard finding a space - despite the car park being adequate for the number of rooms.

I soon found the cause of the problem - SEVERAL drivers saw fit to abandon their cars in such a manner as to take up two spaces. I was so amused by the appalling standard, I took some pictures. However there is a serious side to this.
If this is the standard of their parking, when not under any pressure, what on earth are they like behind the wheel :?:

THIS :censored: is taking up THREE spaces!!!

These were NOT the only offenders, just the worst.
I am mindful of the recent thread regarding BMW drivers, and have to say despite their being represented here along with their teutonic opposition, Peugeot 307's were the most prevalent!! I was embarrassed since my own mount is currently the SW version of the same Gallic mechanical marvel!

The guy in the Merc was obviously in a hurry - he had'nt even allowed the wipers time to park!
It would have been good if he had got in and found them iced in that position when he turned on the ignition, and they tried to park then!

Incidentally, my Peugeot 307 leaves the wipers vertcally if you start it with them in that position, until you operate the wiper stalk - is that common now? It'll help prevent the motor burning out or taking down the fuse!

Could some of these be because the first car had parked badly so the only place for the next person to park was also badly?

My C3 has a feature whereby if you pull the windscreen wiper stalk forwards within about 30 seconds of removing the key the wipers will change from horizontal to vertical, pull it again and they go back. I think it keeps them vertically if you then start the engine. Quite useful when cleaning the windscreen.

Hmm The Pug does that too - it's the only way you can lift the wiper to change a blade! It must be a feature on the Peugeot-Citroen electronics!

My mum's next door neighbour used to work in the Citroen factory in Rennes - he was always drunk, until this year, he had an accident with a chainsaw, and after recovering, collapsed again.
The doc. said one more drink and your dead, and he has not touched a drop since. Shame he finished at Citroen first!

The dodgy parking was just plain pig ignorance - where one was just over the line to one side, the next one (metalic blue 307 SW) just plonked himself right over the next space too, and not even at right angles to the wall!! :x
As for the Merc......!! :o

You can see in the middle picture that the offset gets progressively larger - but they also skew round becuase they have no idea how to reverse into or drive into a space and keep at the right angle to the wall.

The Merc has NO excuse - it's just been abandoned, and subsequent vehicles ALSO abandoned any attempt to park within the lines!

Also at this hotel, there is a real problem with drivers obstructing fire doors which lead out into the car park. the space is signed, and the surface hatched, but they simply park and obstruct the exits.
The signs are OBVIOUS, as are the road markings, so there is no excuse for it other than "couldn't care less" attitude.

Asking for Damage I would think, if someone was really annoyed, could end up with a brick through the window or scratches down the side?

The difference between this and a supermarket, is the guests are resident in the hotel for at least 24 hours after New Year (it was a package deal) and the hotel logs car numbers, AND has CCTV!
If anyone dings your car, they can be traced.
The only thing they dont do is valet parking - but judging by this lot, they need to consider it!

My question remains - if they cannot park straight, what are they like on the road?

Only posed one possible answer - as i don't care what type of car park it is - i judge the driving standard of the owner by the parking - in this park i still wouldn't park within 20 ft of most of them.

With the light levels on one pic - wouldn't trust cctv to work properly.

--wouldn't like to meet any of them on the road .And how is the driver going to get in the car parked behind the Merc( unless the angle is playing tricks)

Are you sure these pictures weren't taken in my garden centre's car park? We get this all the time!

Why do i now have a good look at how cars are parked ??--
One example ----

Small supermart near me has a car park of sorts.Enough space for about 10 cars parked nose or tail to gable end and 2 cars width on other side.
Earlier went in - the 2 cars width is now reduced to 1 with a car parked facing inward at the entrance.I goes in, finds a space and backs in, spots the numpty with someone in both front seats.I goes to cash point when driver comes out of shop - now there were 2/3 space in the park area (drive in , reverse out and now facing right way ??)- but no tries to reverse out into busy road ,view blocked by van (transit size ) and nearly gets totalled. Then proceeds to turn - but not enough room --so drives down pavement beside van, and reverses back - eventually after a 15 point turn faces road and gets out.

Wish i'd had a video cam --should have been worth £250 on you're being framed.
