On my way to work one morning last week, residential street I was following a Ford Galaxy, Galaxys brake lights go on, then off, then on and it moves to the left and brakes to a stop (no signal), I accelerate to move around it, then in a split second right indicator goes on and it attempts a turn into a side street on the right. I brake hard and stop about 6 inches from hitting it side on. Women driving then proceeds with a load of verbal abuse as though its my fault.

I have uprated pads and discs on the front, if it was standard I think it would have been an accident. I've been trying to work out what she thought she was doing, obviously no mirrors. All I can think is that she though she needed to swing to the left to take it wide? Could understand that if it was an HGV but a Galaxy?

Moral of the story. Don't move until you are absolutely sure what the other person is doing.

The events leading up to the incident should have told you something wasn't quite right.

My guess is the driver of the Galaxy was looking for an address or trying to follow directions. Certainly didn't have 100% attention on her driving.

Perhaps she was drunk?

I disagree - not that it actually matters. The overtaker always has to assess the situation and be prepared to deal with unforeseens - which BenD did.

She was imbecillic I'll grant, but I'll lay odds that *something* in her mannerism or the few seconds leading up to this "selling of a dummy", the gait of her vehicle... something... telegraphed this as more than a remote possibility - which was likely contributory to why BenD was able to take the successful evasive action. What needs to be harnessed from the "internal replay" in BenD's head is what this telegraphy was, so he can look out for it in future in situations where it may be even more obscure.

I assue you that being in the right is of very little consolation when your pride and joy is trailered away.

It might make a substantial difference to how the insurance claims process leaves you.

How would the insurance companies look at this? I was always told that if you hit someone its always your fault, is this the case even an examples such as this when someome moves into your path without looking?

If I was our first poster, and I had hit the MPV, I wouldn't not mention the sequence of actions by the MPV driver.
