from Kodak Capital!

This is the town which has more speed cams than anywhere else - yet dotted around yesterday's local paper are stories such as :

Quote:

A woman was seen staggering along after crashing her car - but her mobile phone was found in the wreck and police traced her.

The 23 year old credit controller was charges with careless driving, failing to stop afet an accident and failing to provide a sample and was banned for 18 months and fined £200 plus costs.

Defence claimed she had drunk one shandy at a friend's house and skidded on ice as she approached the roundabout. Defence calimes she was traumatised and panicking about what her father would say abiouyt the damaged car and downed a vodka when she got home

yeah - I know.... they all do it ... IG says so...

But camera did not detect this or prevent the incident, car was registered to her father and thus they would have traced her despite the phone.

Another story in this same paper talks about a high speed pursuit through Blackpool. This involved a car which turned out to have been stolen from a car drive. The owner reported it - and received a NIP 14 days later - which was cancelled...evenutally.

A further story tells of a 21 year treated for minor injuries after swerving to avoid a pot hole and colliding with a lamp post.

Hmmmm! :scratchchin: Blackpool is a really safe place to drive then....not!

In the Readers' letters (I love the postbags in local papers  8-) )

A reader writes about the vandalism which, apparently from the general letters and articles, has been prevalent in the late nigh car parks in the town

He writes

Quote:

I find it very strange that I can drive up Devonshire Road early on a Sunday morning and find a van pointing a camera at me. What would it cost to have the police walk around the car parks late at night - instead of standing around in the street of hiding in vans . Just the presence of beat officers keeping things safe would encurage people to come to town and leave their car with some feeling of safety.

Because of incorrect priorites - we are driving people out of town and granting victory to these louts!

Yep - think we'll be giving Blackpoo a miss....

Nearly every night there are stories in the Gazette about banned drivers being back in court.

A couple of months back a car shot past my brothers taxi late at night and demolished a bus stop and ended up in a ground floor flat. My bother stopped and detained the driver who was attempting to leave the scene. A passing police car had turned around (before the accident) and took over. Don't think it has got to court yet. This was an already banned driver apparently.

I believe there was another KSI last night - brother rang me about 11pm to say that somebody was trapped under a bus just in from the prom. Emergency services there with air bags etc trying to lift the bus. It makes a change from the annual person run over by a tram.

Definitely! :D

We'd stayed down in Manchester as we'd been to a concert down there and on a whim called in at St Annes and Blackpool up to Fleetwood and had a walk, games of leapfrog and French Cricket with our kids on the sands on the way up home... Can never resist local papers wherever we go as this gives a real insight into a town and its locals.

Of course, we find the reports of accidents significant as we are trying to see how this relates to official figures and scamerati claims.

Conclusion? Someone somewhere is not being very truthful....

One would think all these cams would deter. Yes -- the course they offer is superb in content - but they are offering it to the wrong people - the blippers who would perhaps learn more from a tactful "please be a bit more careful" letter than this course. Should be offered to those who really push the envelope more than they should....

But all these stories, plus the ones in our local press and radio, all seem to prove that scamerati is not working, and maybe a return to greater police presence would. We have it on good authority from a :bib: who posts to the PH site that just one Lancs cop patrols 180 square miles and that the division has been reduced by two thirds over an 8 year period - and we look at increased accident rates, drink driving related accidents proven to be on increase in the camera capital of UK .... and drwa the only logical and real life conclusion...

peer reviewed documentation may reach similar conclusion but if it does not give "right" result - it's rarely published  :shhh: cannot say more......er.... do do these .... er ... peer reviewed... err ...stuff .... um ... er.. no one agrees with anyone really ... er .... um .. er....

I heard it on good authority (a BIB) recently there are normally only 4 trafpols on Lancashire motorways, unless there's a major incident.

Lancashire has more miles of Mway than any other police area :o

There's the M6, M61, M65, M55, M58 and the A601(M)

10-15 years ago every time I drove on the M6 through Lancs I would see a trafpol, now I hardly ever see one
