If a length of ARMCO is detroyed in an accident, is the Highway Authority bound to replace it in a certain length of time, or can they just cone it off and leave it?

A section of Armco destroyed last year has yet to be replaced near me, and I think the damaged section could actually be dangerous in the wrong circumstances - such as in the recent snow, as the twsted end is likely not secure.

Are there rules on this, or do we rely on common sense? If so we could be in trouble - it's in short supply in Cumbria's Highways department - chances are it'll get replaced just after the next accident - especially if it is a fatal.

Ernest, is the road in question subject to a speed restriction? The reason I ask is because I travel up the A34 every week, on which are road works. The speed limit has been restricted to 40 mph. Where the roadworks started, the actual works have moved up some 2.5 miles, however the 40 limit has remained at the start. They have now placed signs saying barrier incomplete (I suspect) as an excuse to justify leaving the 40 mph limit in place. I’d also be interested in knowing the answer to your question myself. :)

It's a 70 limit DC, where the road is elevated slightly, and the off ramp exit lane leaves and goes steeply down hill, into a tight turn left.

The Armco used to separate the main DC from the steep grassy bank which led down to the exit lane, and was peeled back in a messy accident I think last year.
One section of the armco was hanging down the bank, but is now turned back on itself, and the damaged end marked with cones.
If a vehicle were to strike the end of the damaged Armco now, I feel certain it would become impaled, rather than ride up the normal sloped lead-in to Armco, which I believe is intended to prevent cars becoming impaled.
