Is it just me or are the orange dots which indicate new posts playing up a bit? I'm finding (on several computers) that if I return to the main index, having just checked (say) General Chat, that all the other orange dots have vanished. This only in the last few weeks.

Or am I just incompetent?

:?

It's working fine for me and there have not been any recent software changes.

However I do have a different 'working practice' and that might hide the problem from me. I open all forums with new messages in background windows, then open all topics with new messages in yet more background windows. Opening in a background window is SHIFT-CONTROL click (i.e. a single click) in Opera. I find this highly efficient. Pages always build in the background.

Anyone else having problems?

No, this happened to me last night when I looked at the site at about 8pm. At 5pm there were lots of new posts. At 8pm there were none.

Could it have something to do with timings on cookies now that the clocks have changed? Or are cookies all worked out in GMT? Mind you both computers (the server and your PC) would not only have to know what the time is, but they would have to know what timezone you are in, and this may not be correct both ends. :)

OK more specifically (because this just happened):

If I go to http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/index.php, various sub-forums are marked as having new posts.

If I close my browser, then open to above page again, all posts are marked as read, and I'M SURE this wasn't the case before.

Could someone else see if they get the same thing?

No, it's always been the case that if you completely close your browser, and then open it again, all unread topics will then be marked as read.

However, this shouldn't happen if you simply open up another window or tab in your browser and spend some time looking at something else in there.

Sometimes , only just sometimes, find that posts are not being marked as read.
