So by your own admission speed cameras are useless in detecting drunk, drugged & uninsured drivers etc only there seems to be a problem here in that Police units on our roads are being reduced as a result of camera placement.
What do you think? is it ok to be pissed yet within the limit?
Please don't tell me all will be well if I adhere to the correct speed limit.

Yes, but how do we catch the uninsured / unlicensed / drunk / drugged / banned etc?

Please get it into your head that people don't necessarily post here or support the Safe Speed campaign because they feel themselves in constant danger of getting points on their licences.

So let me get this right....

If I drive at 30mph, then I won't have to worry about drunk/uninsured/unlicensed/disqualified drivers/etc? :loco:

Surely if a camera catches that many people then it's a good indication that it isn't slowing them down....

ps. Captain Gatso is a guy who is very anti. ;)

Yes, according to TSM, at 3.32pm, it is perfectly acceptable to drive at 30mph along a road where there is a school, for example, as you are not breaking the speed limit. You are driving perfectly within the law, so therefore all is well. Oh look! Where did that kid come from - splat - too late. But I wasn't speeding, officer! So I can't have been at fault, can I?

Blimey, that's what I've been doing wrong all this time. I'm going to go home tonight and cancel all my vehicle insurance policies and buy some class A's! So long as I don't exceed the limit it won't matter...

Dee de de de de dedeee, let it snow let it snow let it snow!

Some enviromental points for you to consider my sensible friend:

1. A coal-fired thermal power station will use 10,000 tonnes of coal every day.

2. If everyone on an intercity train got off and drove instead, they would actually use less fuel and produce less pollution.

Me driving a big 3-litre V6 will have absolutely sod all difference to the enviroment than me driving a 1ltr eco-diesel when we consider the amount of CO2 pushed out by industry.

If you want to find some real unbiased details about so-called global warming, read Criton's "state of fear" (we can help with the long words). West Point, the place we have the longest recorded temperature data for, has the same average temperature now as it did in 1850 when records began.

Off-topic, perhaps, but read here and here

So would you rather that we all did 30mph around corners, down our driveways, on ice and in fog and down narrow streets with parked cars and children running around? How do we know what speed to drive under those conditions if we don't set our own limits?

Whoever said they did?

Not a hero, but a bloody hard-working ordinary bloke, who felt strongly enough that there's something badly wrong with the system to do something about it.

and ackrinton stanley are a league 2 football team

I couldn't be a*sed to comment.

I would have cameras every where, the sorts of driving witnessed everyday need thousands more people reciving bans from driving.

How many of these acts of bad driving you have witnessed would have resulted in a NIP from a camera? Or how many would have been seen, recoreded and dealt with by a good old black rat in his/her volvo?

speed<>bad driving therefore speed cameras will not make (have not made) road travel appreciably safer. Speaking with an ex trafpol at work today, he pointed out that for every speeding offence he reported for prosecution, there were at least 20 more serious (not just traffic) offences dealt with by his ability to "sniff a wrong un as they drove past"
