Be careful chaps.

"Our source" OK so I enjoy using the phrase  Always wanted to.. tells us that a new cam sprouted on this road yards past a pub called "George & Dragon" and opposite some bargain store.

Our source happens to be pally with my sister. I do have some photos.

There's NO rectangular warning sign - yet the Gatso is yellow and we are informed this cam was erected on Friday and film placed inside on Monday by a van driver pal of "our source"

From the photo we have on our e-mail - it appears "hidden" - erected in the grounds of a farm field opposite the M&S bargain store. I shall try to forward these to you Paul later on - but I do want to watch the C4 BiB bash prog  later tonight.

For all who drive this road.. which runs from the A580 to Culcheth... Risley .. Warrington - please be careful past the cam. Our source says "impossible to speed at peak as road is a jam to Warrington anyway!" But even so. .. this one is not easy to spot and being new .. RA and Origin were not aware .. until now :D

Edited because I got the road wrong! It's the A574 and not the A572 as originally headed.

Now got some photos to show how well hidden from approaching motorists and bikers.

Sister managed to get some photos of this new Gatso. No signs and not really easy to spot on approach

She took a few photos to give overall "feel". It's the A574 and not the A572 ..

My sister thoughtfully placed a comment on her photos! Ooh - acid

Is this road a "Clearway"?

What do the residents think of it? I presume that the bite out of the adjoining field is kosher?

I suspect this site will quickly attain a degree of notoriety - and maybe attract the attention of Capain Gatso.

This camera has been sited there due to the high number of fatalities over the years, along with numerous other numbers of serious and minor collisions. I know of at least 4 fatalities one a double, and a number of serious, so based on this I would fell that the road warrants it. The road itself now has a lot more new residential properties, since they pulled the old mill down not to mention the number of pubs and little industrial estates and garden centres. If the road was used sensibly in the first place like all other roads for that fact then we would not need to see these contraptions for revenue being put up. It seems like it is the only best placed site as there are too many houses for them to site it right outside someones front door and its probably within a half a mile of the casualties site either way.

In other words it is not sited where the casualties were, just near where they were. More a case of being seen to do something, even if it is the wrong thing. Sums it up really.

And every one caused by speeding over the limit?

The whole road looks like a prime spot for pedestrians stepping out into the road to me. Looking at that slab wall it's been climbed over in several places.

Stephen . my sister has spoken to the locals there. They say they have not heard of these incidents.

My wife pointed this out to mosis in a completely different thread and forum .. but my sister and the residents would like to know why the cam is not placed by the small shopping area (post office, library and newsagent and corner shop..) or by the Culcheth High School with nearby Primary and Nursery .. near a lethal mini - roundabout..

Per the locals .. my sister's a teacher and knows staff a Culcheth High.. from some teaching association.. ... this is the really dangerous stretch and not the bit between the tw  o pubs.

However, my sister does acknowledge pub crawls and would sincerely like to know how the cam can control those above legal limit at the cam site.. given such tend to drive below speed limit but over drink drive limit

She lives in Worsley area.. but had pal in Glazebrook...

Whats the fuss about if i had my way ALL gatso's would be located like this, some morons would only keep there lienes a week.

as for the signs painted on the road I'll bet my house that there are red round thirty miles per hour signs further up the road.

The speed limit is for the whole streatch of road not just the few yards past the gatso like most moronic speed obsesives think

I drove past this gatso today, there is no problem whatsoever with visibility. If you're driving on the pavement, like from where the first photo was taken, you may have an issue...

You can see it before you get to where the Blue Audi is (about 100 yards) which is ample time.

But look at the road position of that car in that shot. My sister's pal who drives this way each day - and the residents say more cars are driving on the white line since that cam arrived.

Can only think that as word has passed to those using the road - they postion to see it.

There is still no sign warning of the cam either. There should be according to the prats who told her in a phone call that all their cams are preceded by a sign and lolly reminder.

According to the manager of the partnership, the camera is not active yet and they are aware that it fails to meet guidelines for netting off, which will be rectified pre-activation.

Hi - received this e-mail from my sister the other day.

Quote:

Been lurking on the site. The cam is not visible until the last minute and it's worse now the trees are in foliage. I know one of the guys was kind enough to contact the prats and ask for clarification re the absence of the sign (still no signs in place) - but the cam is live. Teacher pal of mine says he has seen them load with film and he says he has seen a couple of pings when travelling home from a parents' evening and an after school INSET session. He teaches at the secondary school beyond the mini -roundabout about a mile and half or so further on. This is where I think there is danger as there are pelicans, small shops and a trio of schools - nursery to secondary clustered together. The village centre itself is quite a tricky one too - especially at the secondary school itself with a nasty bend, mini roundabout and crossing.

He apparently contacted the pratnership who still claim the cam is not "raising revenue" - but this guy saw them loading the film and saw it ping people.

Have uploaded some photos to your hoster for you to pick up Ted. Have also got a couple of interesting scans from the Evening News as well.

More from her e-mail later as she has another fairly interesting obeservation from the M60 and my father-in-law as passenger!

I stood in the middle of this road at about 6.30 pm. The George has a Wacky Warehouse thing and the youngest were at a party there.

Taken fairly close to the cam site and I am standing again in the middle of the road.

This cam is fairly well hidden by the foliage. I do not think this is a correct way to make people aware of any "danger" here. Cam should be where the danger really is.

I crossed to the other side of the road and took yet another photo. You can now see the cam - just

No - this camera is far from visible. Perhaps I should write to the pratnership and suggest they fell the trees.

Isn't there some kind of type approval on the housing? I thought the 'pipe' was round (and could easily be cut with a pipe cutter) but this one has fins on...
