it seems to me that nowadays people are so paranoid of getting a NIP they drive at 10 to 20 MPH below the limit just in case, this really infuriates me as I want to stick at the limit, whats wrong with them?, ie 30 in a 50 etc

They're fools!!!

On the A3024 Bitterne bypass you quite often get a long line of cars in lane 1 driving at 20mph, and I use this opportunity to go into lane 2 and overtake them passing the speed camera at 30mph (50mph would be a safe limit, and even 40mph would be more acceptable).

Yes, the Eastbound carriageway up the hill in Bitterne is farcical. Everyone slows down to ridulously low speeds - completely unnatural driving practice. It feels like you have stopped.

agreed. the limit should be 40 or 50 until the crossroads at the train station. the scameras are in the wrong place too. why not put them down the hill where the houses are?

Oh that Bitterne camera - that road should be 50+ :x

Ditto the A303 at Chicklade, with the camera half way up the two lane bit as you leave the valley. A lot of people stay in L1 until after the camera, doing about 40. Anything with a modicum of poke can get past quite a few by accelerating up to NSL straight away.

Today I took my oldest lad to Bangor Uni (he's starting there in Sept - on a gap year working at the local hospital at the moment) to look at accommodation etc. Whilst driving both directions on the A55 I found myself regularly (and unnecessarily) looking at the speedo in the NSL sections because I seemed to be going much faster than everyone else. On every occasion my satnav indicated I was with 3mph either way of 70. (I was driving my wifes 206K miler Saab 900 so wasn't likely to be inadvertently "clogging" it). I'd estimate most people driving at 55-60...

Is it really paranoia when they really are out to get you?

I’d say yes, like allot of other people I need my licence for work, I tend to drive below most limits because for one thing (as stated by a case recently) I’m never to certain what the speed limit is on some roads anymore so I tend to drive very cautiously looking for speed limit signs and speed cameras (especially if I don't know the area). And yes I am paranoid about loosing my licence. I was caught speeding on my bike a couple of years back, I was on a Sunday run minding my own business when out of the blue (hidden behind a mound at the side of the road, and in the middle of nowhere) there was a mobile camera. Before this I’d never had a speeding ticket (I’m now 53). I know it was my first one and should class it as just another of how many million others, no big deal you might say, but I did take it as a personal insult at the time, Especially as I try to take my driving seriously.

that one got me. its straight, its wide, it was 2am and i got caught with my foot down (56MPH). i think most police officers would have used common sense and realised there is no danger but scameras do not have that facility :x
