First of all, just would like to welcome myself to the forum, seems like an aladins cave of information...

:)

I have a query though

I was driving today about 12 pm on the A90 edinburgh to Aberdeen. I have just passed the Dollar/kelty/knockhill junction (if anyone knows it) and was tootling along. Its a 70 limit and I think I was only doing about 74 but I noticed a Road Policing marked Police vehicle on the flyover ahead. I was travelling North and it was facing West to East. Just wandering if a radar could have caught me as i never got a chance at looking at my speedo...

I never got stopped and i dont believe I was over the actual limit however i always face the worst.

p.s. I did not see any gun or other device.

For a start 74 on your speedo is likely to be below 70 in reality.

Also police do you for 10% + 2mph over the limit, i.e. 79mph - as much as an indicated 85...

...so I think you'll be ok! :)

yeh, I am up with the law side of things (i am a Police officer with Lothian and Borders) however I know Fife Constabulary are pretty hardcore with speed recording devices, so just wandering if they have on that could be operated out the side of the car (possibly operated) by the driver...

... again i wasn't sure what speed i was doing. By the engine note it sounded like i was doing about 3300rpm in 6th, which is about 74mph. but again i never looked to see. :)

Police Officers are especially :welcome: . I'll sort out your forum 'badge'.

The only reason to worry would be if the vehicle was one of three 'talivans' operated by the Fife Speed Camera Partnership - and even then it seems unlikely that you were in excess of the prosecution threshold.

Thanks very much paul, the site looks extremely professional. Yeh, i don't think I was exceeding it as i leave it for the track, however you never know on a nice sunny day...

I believe it was an estate of some sort, i thought they would have to be operated out of the rear, not the side. A well, not to worry

a 306 rallye - it is quite

1st - 5.8mph / 1000rpm = 42mph @ 7250rpm
2nd - 9.2mph / 1000rpm = 67mph @ 7250rpm
3rd - 12.1mph / 1000rpm = 88mph @ 7250rpm
4th- 14.9mph / 1000rpm = 108mph @ 7250rpm
5th - 18.0mph / 1000rpm = 131mph @ 7250rpm
6th - 21.5mph / 1000rpm = 156mph @ 7250rpm

Do you have access to a sat nav - maybe borrow one?

it would take you 5 mins to calabrate your speedo and know exactly how fast 74mph is.

Of my two cars 74 woud be about 65 on one and 72 on the other.

I have heard that some northern scameratis do zero tollerence days. But I've never seen a NIP for less than 10%+2

Or a Transit 135 like mine; that'd equate to about 80mph.

All of mine do 70 in second easily so I have no idea what 6th actually is :D

Mine does 10000 rpm in first at 70mph (5 left to go...)

(of course I immediately change up to top gear)

I dont want to worry you too much (since an indicated 74 is almost certainly fine) but some scam vans can work when parked side on.

There would have been a fairly obvious, open, black flap in the side of the van facing you however.

This image isn't the clearest in the world, but that's a thames Valley Transit van and you can see that the flap for the camera is pretty large and obvious if you know what you're looking for.
