A number of cameras on the A40 between Cheltenham and Burford have been removed over the last few years, after each machine had suffered severe bird strike damage or something or other, never to be replaced.

So according to Govt 'thinking' the accident rate on this stretch of road should have gone up.

Are the accident figures available?

Your local "Safety Camera" partnership should have the figures. Expect some difficulty getting them if they have fallen!!

You could also make a Freedom of Information request to the police authority. They could also supply accident causes and statistics if the request is worded correctly.
My local camera site had only 3% of accidents down to speeding in excess of the limit!
