Hit and run , probobly un-insured in a sleepy coastal village over run with rich pensioners.

Quote:
NEW MILTON: Blind woman hit by a electric buggy
By Echo Reporter
Blind woman hit by buggy A blind woman has been hit by an electric mobility buggy.

The woman, 50, has been left housebound after breaking her wrist and her five-year-old guide dog Karl has had to go into temporary care until she recovers because she cannot look after him.

The woman was hit as she walked in Station Road, New Milton, outside the garden of the Rydal public house between 1pm and 1.30pm on Thursday.

The woman had been using her white stick as an aid, when she heard the sound of what she recognised as two electric mobility buggies heading towards her from the market area.

One of the buggies quickly drove past her but the second collided with her white stick. The stick went rigid and then sprung back, causing her to break her wrist.

Neither buggy rider stopped to offer help and continued driving as if nothing had happened.

Police are appealing for people and motorists who may have seen the incident to come forward.

when you're walking at 2mph then 5mph is quick.

It’s just the way they always have to make reference to speed. Why couldn’t they have just said one of the buggies drove past. One thing it does highlight is how anybody can get seriously injured even at 5 mph.

I nearly got run over by one of those the other day. Walking along on the footpath I overtook him, due to the density of pedestrians, but about 50 yards further along the path I wanted to go into a shop, go to walk across the footpath, I don't generally carry out full observations when I'm walking on a footpath, as it's exactly what it's called, a FOOTpath, not a buggy/bike path, but this plonker nearly hits me, yells at me telling me to watch where I'm going, and I just look at him thinking aye right... Couldn't believe it. I reckon he was doing a good 5 or 6mph, I don't fancy getting hit by one of those, they look quite solid...

But of course, he wasn't speeding... :o

Once I saw one coming TOWARDS ME ON A ROAD in wednesbury.

I saw one going the worng way on a duel carriageway in to poole  .

I got hit by one in Skeggness (my fault, although he did not break or try to aviod me  )

In lichfield market this weekend a woman was backing one up. However she did not feel the need to look behind her. :x

In thier defence they did not hit her , just her stick.
The place has narrow twisting pavements and a busy local road. New Milton really is gods waiting room! The council fails to cater for the elderly disabled even more than it fails the young disabled.

Don't laugh, there were 9 fatalities involving electric invalid buggies in 2004. Thats 3 times the accident rate of mini motos.

Would those 9 fatalities (or even SI's) be used in road statistics?
