Today it would appear the SPECs system between J22 & J23 of the M60 were switched on - with a 40mph limit. Allegedly there are roadworks taking place here. However, there are still four lanes open, (albeit one is now the hard shoulder), and the only sign of roadworks is the odd row of cones (that have been there for at least three weeks). Travelling along here after 7pm tonight I was faced with a wide open, fairly clear road but restricted to an obscenely low speed of 40 . This is without a doubt the worst speed enforcement setup I personally have encountered - 4 open lanes with a 40mph limit, (no doubt there is worse somewhere else though). And I'm gonna have to drive through this twice daily to and from work now

By contrast the recent roadworks on the M65 were subject to a 50mph limit whilst the motorway was restricted to just two lanes. The only enforcement I saw was the occasional scam-van on a bridge.

Why can't we just use Common Sense?

Nem - reminds me of the M4 through west Wilts. There have been cones along the hard shoulder for miles at a time, with an occasional maintenance vehicle in sight. Sometimes there are even a couple of men working! The limit is reduced to 50 in these areas, a situation that has persisted for about 2 years.

I finally snapped this week, and purchased a Road Angel. Watch this space for a review!
