I do like this quote.

we do need to change our mind set other wise we will all be driving at 20 mph.

I'm sure that that most estimable organisation "Brake" would prefer it to be far lower than that!

May I say that Italy is one country where the situation is worse than here.
S-Cameras (aka Autovelox) don't have to be signposted. Most are hand held or just mounted on top of regular police patrol vehicles. Most are hidden and there are plenty on motorways.
It was in the news for the past few days a new legislation may come into force so that autovelox's are signposted on motorways.

Haven't they just increased the motorway speed limit to around 150kmh/90mph in Italy though? At least that way they have a sensible limit that is only likely to be broken by a small percentage of drivers

On some motorways, yes.

If you want ridiculous, try driving at 60mph on this

knowing that either hidden in the bushes (surprisingly there are some here) or mounted on a car heading towards you will be plod and his radar.

See, many, many, many people hate JC. Because he is un-PC, because he is opinionated, because he is a free-thinker.

But.

I've been reading and watching him since I was 15 (21 years ago) through Performance Car magazine / Top Gear / Videos etc etc. and he is only repeating what he stated 20-odd years ago! Socialists are hell-bent on control of the populate, and "speed" does not kill.

I belive it will end up as low as that, I accept it.
However I also belive that once industry and the ecomany start to suffer, and deaths on the road do not decrease it will all change. :D

THEY CAN NOT LIE FOREVER.

People are... But not via the ballot box...

I can honestly see an increasing campaign of "civil disobedience", it's already becoming obvious that more and more are not registering their cars, or registering them to accomodation addresses, or using throwaways, or clones. Then there are the increasing numbers of cases that are being "pushed to the limit", either by using the minutiae of PACE regulations or appeals to the ECHR.

Most already drive above 160km/h on a regular basis.

The most recent experience was crossing from France to Italy near ventimiglia (after Nice).

Hilly road with plenty of lorries. Get stuck behind one at 50mph, or overtake and stick with the main flow at 100mph+... that was in a Ford Ka, which handled negative camber turns quite well at it's rated top speed.

People have all the material things they want and need.
people are comfortable.

"I have my nice house filled with nice things, I have my 06 plate KIA  on the drive (Cos I want to show my nieghbours I have got a new car, rather than a good one). I have nice things and all the credit I need. I can get pissed 24hours a day, soon I will be able to gamble. These other things like speed camreas don't affect me because I never speed, and lets face it you get more out of this life looking good and being thick ( Big brother, and love island etc etc).

Absolutely right. This government is breeding a herd of unthinking, complacent, bovine lower middle class cretins, balanced by a violent underclass of drug- and alcohol-fuelled thugs and benefit junkies.

B******s to "Health & Safety", 24/7 CCTVs, speed cameras, "diversity", political correctness (aka brainwashing) and all the rest. Revolt! - but don't bother having a riot and killing a few people; that will be explained away by some fatuous "psychologist" and you'll probably end up being sent on a Carribbean holiday. Try selling bananas by the pound instead - you'll be hung, drawn and quartered in no time at all.

Be yourself - and to hell with anyone who tries to stop you!

Which, of course, is exactly what they want. Total control. Motoring is not even the sparkle on the tip of the iceberg here, it goes much, much deeper. The only thing that saves us from living under a completely totalitarian regime is the said regime's inability to implement the IT systems necessary for the job - maybe we have some like-minded individuals working within EDS etc., whose mission in life is to screw things up for the powers that be.
One thing's sure. As long as the sheeple have their oversized fridges, plasma TVs and a brand new car every couple of years (all on the never never, of course) then they're not going to be interested in what's going on all around them and certainly don't have the motivation to help change anything.
I just wish I had the guts (and a portable generator) to take a circular saw to my nearest speed camera. In this day and age, it's the only thing that works - forget the ballot box, when it boils down to it, ALL political parties are exactly the same.

Read yesterday in a pc mag about plans for using existing cctv systems for anpr so I assume it will soon be used for speed cameras.
Actually they were also talking of new cats eyes in the road being capable of the same thing and it was actually being trialed in Scotland.

Try taking it to the nearest mobile phone or TV mast. You'd get a bigger reaction from the sheeple ( :hehe: ) than you would if you toppled a Gatso.
