Interested to know what people think of this and if anybody has to pass more speed cameras on their daily commute? I commute from Kingston Upon Thames to Canary Wharf (18 miles) and pass 11 fixed speed cameras on the way to work and 9 on the way home. I have to pass a speed camera 100 times a week!!! Reason I've been roused is that I got caught by a mobile camera last week taking the speed camera total to 21 that day. I went for 10 years with no points and now I seem unable to avoid them, I'm currently on 9 points. As a motorcyclist I'd be at risk sticking to 30mph on some stretches of road as I'd be literally pushed out of the way by other motorists, this is fact as I've tried it!!

It's appalling. Go to http://www.pepipoo.com/NewForums2/index.php and use the law to fight back.

Anyone commuting on the A34 from Newcastle to Stafford, or from Stafford to Walsall, would probably pass at least 15 in each direction

Look at the maps of Staffs and the West Midlands on http://www.speedcam.co.uk - it's appalling

And they'd pass NO patrol cars. Staffordshire Police don't have a traffic division anymore.

Not commuting...... merely 'going shopping'.

From home too local store, distance 3mls, I have to pass six scams each way, these are located on 'scamera alley' (A610 Nottm) over a distance, of approx 3/4s of a mile !

In addition to these we have the random mobile cameras plus roadside vehicle checks !

If I travel to Arnold via the ring road, there's another 'gauntlet' of scams to pass through, (six +) or I could use the B6004 route, and run the other 'gauntlet' of 6+ new scams on that stretch !

It's the same story when travelling to the QMC (hospital) via the ring road, multiple scams, fixed/mobile, almost ALL of the scams are 'hidden/obscured' and a large percentage of these are 'NOT'... 'Visible from 60yds' (ACPO 'Guidelines') !

A typical days motoring (shops/hospital/visiting friends etc) around 20mls in total would see me passing through at least '36'!! (WOW !) fixed scams + ?? mobile 'set ups', and thats just 'local' driving !
(OK, These are 'Pairs' of 'Specs', but it still amounts too, around 18 sets !)

Out of curiosity, how does 'this' compare to your 'hometown' ?

BTW...don't know about your area, but M/Cs are being rigorously 'targetted' down this way, due to the high fatality rate involving them !

Agree, have ceased to use that route for getting Mother-in-law's house (Mapperley Plain) from Brum, will now always use A453, then Lady Bay Bridge and Colwick Loop Road. Can't remember any fixed scams that way. Notts has particular attachment to SPECS, will shortly be heading to father's place near Grantham and eill have to run gauntlet of SPECS on Bingham by-pass. Atrocious and unneccesary.

OK, well I grew up in a shoebox in the middle of the road....

I should stop complaining about what I have to contend with. Our fixed cameras are fairly rare and well spaced and there are very few on the highways, BUT the mobile units are all over the place and the law in Victoria is such that they do not have any form of warning whatsoever.

So, we have less fixed camers (thank God for the Road Angel) but none of our cameras are marked so in most cases the first you know is either the flash or, in most cases, the letter in the mail. It's a great system, "you were speeding 2 weeks ago, naughty boy", does nothing to change my behaviour, it just makes me angry!

Seriously, how many of these letters does it take, over what period to cause a licence suspension?

In the UK the mimimun number of licence points for speeding is 3, and 12 points accumulated over 3 years means a virtually automatic 6 month licence suspension. So 4 times in 3 years is the MAXIMUM number of times it takes to get your licence suspended. In court you can get your licence suspended for a single offence...

I don't use Colwick Loop Rd very often but will advise you that it is currently 'in line' for cameras (it may already have been done ?) due to the number of KSI accidents, so beware next time you visit.
Also, the A453 being what it is, will almost certainly be scammed due to its enormous 'revenue potential' !

Won't be too long now before you will be unable to get 'anywhere' in Notts without the prospect of a fine + points, as our illustrious chief CON has been dubbed, 'Notts equivelent to Brunstrom' !

You may be aware that the number (growing at an alarming rate) of scams flooding Notts has earned it the nickname of 'Kodak County' !

Hi This topic interested me ! I live in STAFFS and to travel a couple of miles I pass 6 fixed speed cameras. ( I.E. 12 TIMES FOR 1 JOURNEY ) So passing 20 a day would be a breeze. If you add in Mobile sites you could easily be talking up to 30 a day. Do you realise that in a typical year it is by no means unusual to pass 10,000 cameras !!!!!!!. So doing some elementary statistics - if I drive to stay within the limit - and succeed 9,999 times out of 10,000 a remarkable achievement by any standards. I would then get a ticket every year. This means that driving at the highest standard and achieving a 99.99% success rate. I could easily end up with a ban ! The amazing fact is how few people end up with a fine.

Came off M6 at Jn 13 last Monday because it was littered with collisions. I took A34 from south of Stafford to Stoke Jn15.

I must admit it was an appalling trip, but my failing patience was tested to the absolute limit by fixed cameras and constantly changing limits.
The speed limits did seem reasonably appropriate for the road, and I always alter my speed to within the limit, but my kids were playing up, I was looking for toilets and I was already 3 hours behind schedule.

My concentration was being divided much more than I would normally like. I had real difficulty assuring myself that I was at the right speed for each camera because I had gone through so many and so many speed limit changes.

I think I'll stick to the slab in future  .

How "FEW" ?
76,000 in four years, = 4.2million quid, and that's just the A610 ! (3/4 mile stretch) THAT'S a "FEW" ?

Off hand, I can't recall the exact total for Notts overall figures of drivers 'caught',
but the 'takings' from scams was over 16MILLION POUNDS ! in less than 5yrs !

"Amazing" ?

Appalling, more like.

But then, we do have a CC who suffers from Acute Ameriphobia, and has delusions of grandeur,
coupled with a yearning lust for fame and publicity.
(But not for much longer now !)

Lets face it - whatever we say or do, the government and the scamera partnerships are not going to give up this kind of revenue.

What did the fuel protest get - President Blair saying that he wasn't going to be dictated to by the public. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that our elected representatives, including the massively overpowering Labour majority are supposed to represent the electorate, ie the public.

This is almost one of those "Don't even get me started" moments :furious: :furious:

I no longer enjoy driving - its just a drudgery of congestion, crap driving and worrying if you are going to get a NIP. I got flashed 3 weeks ago by a fixed gatso scam, and I was 2 mph under the posted limit on cruise. There happened to be a car travelling very rapidly in the other direction which probably set it off. I am just waiting for the NIP to arrive. Mitigating this is the fact that I had 3 people in the car with me who can attest that I was not breaking the speed limit.

However we protest - they will not listen, its just far to lucrative to give up.

I'm not so sure. It will depend on the overall success (or rather lack of it) of the cameras. I know that the govt has a tendency to flaunt questionable stats on this issue but when it is clearer that injuries & deaths are actually increasing despite cameras, the whole thing will have to be at least rationalised. Eventually. :scratchchin:
