I'm booked for three hours - the entire Mike Dickin programme - from 11pm until 2am Sunday. We'll be talking about ... wait for it ... speed cameras.

FYI Dorset SCP do not use the LTI 20/20, they use Pro Laser 3s.

Shame really, otherwise they might have caught me and I could have had some fun in court :)

Maybe once more judges get done for speeding they'll change their mind... Or maybe they have been caught and they think that because they had to pay others should to? hmm...

A speed camera isn't going to deter an unlicensed chav!

It didn't stop the prat who crashed into a lamp-post on the road near our house sending it careering towards an oncoming car

{Whoops, you made the point}

This really is excellent so far, Paul - you are coming across as the voice of reason :)

The first time I've ever heard an extended radio interview - obviously you've had a lot of practice at the media skills.

I read in Dorset SCP's minutes that they caught a vehicle doing about 70-80 in a 30 limit in Bournemouth. (Knowing the site that is a mad speed to be doing so they should have been caught!)
They had sent the photos to the real police who had seen a similar vehicle but couldn't prove it was that one.

Seems like a bit of a waste of police time looking for the vehicle there.

Don't forget to mention regression to the mean and how camera partnerships use freak accident occurrences in order to justify camera placement. Then claim that the established camera is the reason for lower accident rates.

Er, yes, it is like he is bowling easy full tosses, and Paul is smiting them over the boundary.

What a disgrace :o

I wasn't happy at first with Mr Dickin's approach but it shows how moderate Paul is, which is a good thing.

Well if an intelligent person from a camera partnership wants to call up and give their side of the story I'm sure they will be welcomed. Bet they won't do it.

Paul, you're doing so well I don't think there's anything much the rest of us can add :)

Fee charging cash machines to be colour coded? I thought they had to be reflective yellow already?

(But most of Dorset's Gatsos are not reflective. But hey, they're only guidelines.)

That advert thingy said Mike Dicken is "angry man". Speed cameras make him more angry and when driving that's not a good thing...

Paul, maybe mention something about BRAKE and others stating that speed is the biggest killer on our roads and some such. Also possibly say something about how they are forgetting about all the other factors of road safety?

Rob.

Thanks for reading my message out :)

I thought all "normal" Gatsos could tell the difference between a lorry and a car? I have seen photos of the control units and they have 2 speed settings, one with a picture of a car, one with a picture of a lorry. I *believe* they work on the length, as they know the speed of the vehicle and how long it is in the radar beam so can work out the length mathematically. Not all partnerships nessecarally set them seperately though.

Whatever length the camera thinks the vehicle is the vehicle's numberplate would have to be checked to see it's maximum limit anyway... Well I would hope they would check!

These days people who cause wide-spread fear (in this case of losing your license) are usually called terrorists.

Can we lock them up for 3 months without charge yet?

The programme was ok but I felt it turned into a free-for-all on getting off camera fines on technicalities rather than a serious discussion on road safety issues. More suited to Pepipoo than Safespeed...

I see your point. It's possibly a feature of the audience. Next time I think we'll try and have slightly fewer callers. But I do have to find the flexibility to pitch at the level of the (expected) audience.
