Potential collapse
of speed camera laws
We've just seen a "skeleton
argument" being submitted by a solicitor in a speed camera case. If the
argument is correct, anyone can use it and all prosecutions will fail.
For now we have added the
letter to our "unsigned forms" pages. (click here)

Speed camera legal
loophole
According to a short note
in The Times:
"Phillip Dennis, 34, of Whitford
near Holywell, who was trapped by a speed camera, was found not guilty
when Flintshire magistrates at Mold, North Wales, highlighted a loophole
in the law. Mr Dennis had not signed the form which had been posted to
him and in which he named himself as the driver of the vehicle - meaning
the document was inadmissible as evidence."
Note that we understand one
is obliged to complete the form, but not obliged to sign it. It seems that
this loophole has now been verified in a court, and we hope the floodgates
have been opened. Watch this space for developments.
Safe Speed announced this
loophole 18 months ago, but this is the first time that we have heard of
it being tested.

Fatal crashes down
in Germany
Actually all injuries are
down - again. What a crying shame that we can't say the same about UK roads.
Perhaps if we followed Germany's example and concentrated on driving standards
and not dumb speed enforcement would could achieve the same?

Montana
Various legislation problems
in the US led to some "unconventional" speed limit legislation in Montana.
There was no highway speed limit for a time. During this time the accident
figures dipped to an all-time low. Since the legislation has been worked
out and speed limits have been restored, accidents and deaths have INCREASED
dramatically. There's a detailed report here. |
