| Urgent Warning: Brake PR:
Libel risk
Dear Sir, A PR was issued this afternoon by Brake (the road safety charity) entitled: "Road Safety Charity condemns anti-speed camera campaigners for incitement to violence." It refers to a remark I made which was later quoted by The Times newspaper out of context. A complaint has been lodged with The Times. Neither I nor the Safe Speed Campaign encourage or condone any kind of lawbreaking, let alone "incitement to violence". The statistics and information available from the Safe Speed website have been obtained and compiled with the utmost care and scrupulous honesty. Safe Speed stands for intelligent road safety and calls for an urgent return the the proven road safety policies which gave us the safest roads in the World in the first place. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT PUBLISHING INFORMATION FROM THE BRAKE PR MAY RENDER YOU LIABLE TO LIBEL ACTION. As a courtesy on three occasions today I have telephoned Brake and asked to speak to Mary Williams, each time leaving a message that I wished to apologise for the out of context quote reported in The Times Newspaper. I intend to illuminate the road safety debate with facts and analysis, not with spin, lies or personal slurs. I can be reached on 01862 832000 and sometimes on mobile: 07799 045553 Best Regards,
