Hang on,
The present system seems to work, the police suspect a driver of being impaired and call the FME (Forensic Medical Examiner, Police Surgeon) for a medical assement of impairment, that can be used in court as expert evidence.
A friend who is an FME who was called to a 'very drunk' prisoner who had crashed his car.
Immediately on seeing the prisoner in the cell he asked the Custody Sgt for some jam and an Ambulance.
The Sgt returned with the jam and as the FME was rubbing it into the prisoners gums, the Sgt. asks "Doc about the Ambulance..."
FME "F8cking BLUE LIGHTS NOW"
Only then did the Sgt. realise the gravity of the situation.
The prisoner was close to a diabetic coma.

What about Co-codamol(paracetemol plus etc.), caoline and morphine or even methadone(legally prescribed), lettuce contains opiate traces.
Banned for eating salad.

Some drugs are claimed to improve awareness, reactions and concentration during the high ie amphetamine and cocaine, though I in no way condone illegal drug use (more due to the fact it makes criminals very rich, than the effects of the drug itself).

The police drug squad would all be banned as they are likely to show traces, likewise, pharmacists, doctors nurses and carers, it just can't work.

How do you do impairment tests on the disabled, just test them all for drugs as they can't do the test.

But the main problem is there are no Traffic Cops to actually stop and check, other than if ANPR flags you up.

So if you are legal and stay within the speed limits, you are most unlikely to ever get stopped unless your driving is obviously pullworthy.

just my thoughts,

Yep, definately sounds to me like prohibition by the back door. Also smacks of YET ANOTHER drug policy set by people who actually know NOTHING about it.

You're telling me that if I smoke a joint on a saturday night, sleep it off and am completely sober by Monday morning I'd be charged? I wouldn't be impared in any way (I won't even drive if I've had a MOUTHFUL of drink because if I can feel the effects I know that it will affect my driving), yet I'd still be illegal. They can't do me for possession (unless they think I'm carrying a stash in my bone marrow that is) so they will do me for something else.

Yes they do improve awareness, but they also make the user feel somewhat invincible - not a good combination.

What about prescription and over the counter medicines? I'd be willing to bet that there are far more cases of people driving whilst impared by legal drugs which cause drowsyness than there are from illegal substances.

I'm not in any way advocating driving whilst under the influence, but until the correlation between blood levels and intoxication are understood then this CANNOT be reasonable.

I've never smoked poppy seeds
But they are a bugger to get in the syringe :D
sorry couldn't resist.

I remember a Pol. Cam Action type show where a junky told the cops he was "rattling" (withdrawing) when pulled, his car was legal so they let him drive away with girlfriend and kids in car.

In what's probably a more dangerous state than if he'd been high.

Try re-reading what i actualy wrote - and the fact that this is my opinion -i respect yours

I also fail to see how the next bit of personal abuse advances your arguement, so perhaps we shall have to agree to differ.

Before all this i was about to express my hopes that perhaps some attention is going to be focused on other causes of accidents ,other than speeding.

OK, let's look at cannabis. That can show up in the metabolism up to 14 days after consuming it.

And if showing up it could (YES OR NO) constitute a danger to other road users.

If it showed up in a blood sample (and it could in a regular user ,as traces of drugs can be detected weeks after use) ----

two choices for CPS - use of cannabis or driving under influence.

Yes, but the point is that use of cannabis 14 days (or even 1 day) before driving will not result in any impairment whatsoever. So we return to the point that impairment has to be demonstrated, which you do not seem to accept.

Do you think it should be an offence to drive with cannabis metabolites in your system? Simple question.

And having metabolites in your system of cannabis, cocaine or whatever is not a crime. What is illegal is possession of these drugs. If the law was changed so that it became an offence to have drug metabolites in your body, then it would be far more severe than at present and half the bond dealers and media executives would be behind bars
