I don't know the speed, but ask Rigpig. He had some points for something; maybe he's the record holder.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

they have a higher limit - on Top Gear once the Stig went past a gatso at 170+ and the car did not appear on the second photo IIRC?

EDIT: yes, it did happen - first episode of the new format series, 20/10/2002. (the wonder of Google!)

I thought of a super wheeze.
Get 2 cars the same make and model and get a spare front plate for each. Drive the first one of the cars through a long Specs monitored section then stop on the hard shoulder 1/4 of a mile before the second specs camera and fit the spare front plate from the second car to the first car.
Then drive the second car through the first camera whilst on the phone to the driver of the first car. The first car then pulls back onto the carriageway and drives through the second SPECS camera about 30 seconds after the second car has passed the first camera. That way you could, on, say, a 4-mile monitored stretch achieve an apparent average of 480 mph! Of course, the second car then pulls off before the second camera and fits the spare plate from the first car.
A NiP for 480 mph! Wow.
And the SPECS cameras are always correct, are they?

Couldn't you also have a car exit the second camera before it has entered using a similar technique? :D

If you're going to do this, be sure to use two Citroen 2CVs, electric invalid carriages, milk floats, tractors or similar. Probably want to get similar looking drivers too.

I realise that some of those aren't allowed on motorways, but there's always the A616 or whatever it is east of the penines.

Wasn't that PC Mark Milton, doing his utmost to ensure our safety and security (or was it PC Mark Milton being a tool?)

I reckon it would be better if you used a couple of blokes running in Superman outfits.

Get duplicate cars with duplicate plates. Car 2 enters the SPECS via a junction between a set and drives towards the exit SPECS. Car 1 enters the entry SPECS a fraction of a second before Car 2 exits and then pulls off at the junction.

Would you be able to get the "car" to travel at close to the speed of light? I suggest a reliant robin for this.

Presumably [very high] trigger speeds for radar cameras would be achievable using some sort of rotary reflector. I envisage a tin can on a string, but perhaps some sort of re-entrant structure mounted on a powertool would be more effective, and enable higher speeds. It would be hilarious to see a photo from a camera, triggered by such a device out of shot, capturing someone in a Superman costume, or perhaps driving an invalid buggy.

In the absence of any idea as to the legality of such an action it is probably ill-advised. I am sure that 'they' would take a dim view of their film being wasted, though I cannot for the life of me think what legislation they would charge you under.
