All the fuss about a system which from a commercial point of view, SPECs should have been like from the start.
Anyway one thing has raised my concern. As an a-level student of all 3 divisions of science, I would like to ask what right they have to record time stamps to 1/1000 of a second, when the car could enter at a variety of directions, vertical angles, the number plate is not a fixed point, and the system algorithm will certainly take longer to detect a number plate depending on this factors, plus no doubt other factors like light, visibility camera position, etc.
At a quick estimate I reckon the distance measurement could be out by 10m each end, ie 20m maximum, and the time out by 1.5 seconds each end ie 3 seconds maximum. Over 1km, I reckon 6% error. hence 30mph recorded speed could be between 28 and 32mph.
Look how accurate they think their system is: Whoever designed the system would lose marks in a GCSE exam, and probably wouldn't last a week at a decent university.
Finally how did the contractors measure the distance as exactly 1.7779 km? The road would have to be dead straight.
Oh and the cameras are conveniently monitored on a motorised base. For every additonal degree of tilt, the average speed is recorded just that little bit higher. £££ I wish I worked for a Scameraship
